Take a look, it’s in a book… a reading rainbow.
The beloved children’s program Reading Rainbow is making a comeback with brand new episodes after 19 years, beginning on October 4th-and it will feature a new host.
After almost 20 years… Reading Rainbow is coming back to inspire, support, and get kids excited about reading! The show revealed on Instagram on September 29th that it will feature fresh episodes, new characters, exciting activities, and, naturally… lots of new books! “Don’t forget to follow the rainbow,” the announcement said.
Mychal Threets will be the new host of Reading Rainbow, taking over from LeVar Burton, who led the PBS show for its original 23 years before it ended in 2006.
And Mychal is read to turn the page on this new adventure.
Hello everyone! We really appreciate you being here with us today,” said the dedicated advocate for reading in a video released with the news. “I’m Mychal the Librarian, and welcome to the library!”
He added, “We’re so excited to start exploring the world of books together.”
Mychal also shared a heartfelt message to LeVar, explaining that the beloved actor first sparked his passion for reading.
He shared on Instagram on Sept. 30 that there have only been two hosts of Reading Rainbow. He named LeVar Burton, calling him “The Legend of Literacy,” and then added, “And… me, Mychal Threets, a librarian.”
Growing up, Reading Rainbow was a huge part of my life – LeVar Burton is truly someone I admire! It’s the reason I became such a dedicated reader, and ultimately, a librarian. He and Reading Rainbow had this incredible way of making everyone feel like books – and all the worlds within them – were for us, that we all had a place in those stories, and a place everywhere.
The 35-year-old also pointed to fans of the show for being responsible for bringing it back.
I’m thrilled that Reading Rainbow is coming back for everyone! YOU made this happen!” he said. “We’re reaching new heights, like butterflies soaring! Keep an eye out for more…
