With October here, it’s officially horror season! For movie lovers, streaming services are offering a great selection of scary content. Most major platforms have started releasing their new programs for the month, and with Halloween just around the corner, that means a lot of horror movies are available. It’s not only the subscription services getting into the Halloween spirit, though. Free streaming services are also offering thrills – and that includes a fantastic horror film from the 2000s that you can now watch for free.
As part of Tubi’s month-long Terror on Tubi streaming event, the 2009 cult-classic Jennifer’s Body is now available to watch for free. While the film is also streaming on Hulu with a subscription, adding it to Tubi makes it more accessible than ever. Though it wasn’t a big hit in theaters, the comedy horror film has become a popular cultural phenomenon, and fans are still hoping for a sequel.
I just finished watching Jennifer’s Body, and it’s… a trip! The movie stars Megan Fox as Jennifer Check, a popular high school cheerleader, and Amanda Seyfried as her best friend, Anita “Needy” Lesnicki. The story kicks off when Jennifer gets possessed by a demon after a disastrous night, and suddenly develops a *very* specific craving – for the boys at her school. It’s basically a slasher film with a darkly comedic twist. As you can imagine, things get messy, and Needy finds herself right in the middle of it, desperately trying to figure out how to stop Jennifer’s insatiable appetite. The screenplay is by Diablo Cody, and Karyn Kusama directs, and they both bring a really unique vibe to the whole thing. It’s definitely not your typical teen horror flick – I’d recommend checking it out if you’re looking for something a little different. You can find more information about the film here.
Jennifer’s Body Is An Underrated Gem (And We All Want That Sequel)
Jennifer’s Body is a great example of a movie that wasn’t initially successful in theaters, but later gained a dedicated following. Because of this, there’s a possibility we haven’t seen the last of the story. In 2024, Megan Fox stated she’d love to make a sequel to Jennifer’s Body. Recently, Amanda Seyfried shared that a sequel is being planned with producer Mason Novick. While we don’t have many concrete details yet, fans are optimistic about the possibility.
One reason Jennifer’s Body remains popular, even though it didn’t do well when it first came out, is that people now see it as a thoughtful look at female anger. It’s become a rediscovered feminist film that focuses less on how men harm women-specifically, how the band used Jennifer to become famous-and more on women reclaiming control. The film is cleverly subversive, fitting comfortably within the horror genre while also quietly challenging it. With wider availability on streaming platforms like Tubi, more people than ever can discover this modern classic.
Jennifer’s Body is now streaming for free on Tubi.
