Doctor Who stars Billie Piper and David Tennant have shared their desire to appear in a potential new film set within the Whoniverse. They’ve discussed their hopes for being involved in a new movie project.
Both actors have recently reappeared in the world of Doctor Who. David Tennant, who played the Tenth and Fourteenth Doctors, featured in the 60th anniversary episodes with Catherine Tate. Meanwhile, Ncuti Gatwa‘s final episode, “The Reality War,” surprised viewers with a regeneration into Piper.
During a recent meeting at LA Comic Con, Piper and Tennant were asked about the possibility of appearing in a Doctor Who movie. Piper quickly responded with a “Yes,” and Tennant enthusiastically agreed, saying, “Sure!”
“I always was pitching for that,” Piper continued. “Where’s the film?”
“Where’s the movie?!” asked Tennant.
And that’s us,” Piper said with a laugh. “It was fantastic that so many people went to see the final Doctor Who episode in theaters. I really enjoyed that. I’d be thrilled to see the Doctor Who stories shown on a big screen-they’re almost like movies already. But yes, I’d definitely do that. Wouldn’t you agree?
“Oh, for sure, yeah,” Tennant answered, adding: “We’re available!”
This isn’t the first attempt to bring Doctor Who to the big screen. Paul McGann famously played the Eighth Doctor in the 1996 TV movie.
Peter Cushing appeared in the films Dr. Who and the Daleks and Daleks’ Invasion Earth 2150 A.D., which are not considered part of the main Doctor Who storyline.
As Piper pointed out, The Reality War was shown in movie theaters throughout the UK and Ireland when it came out in May.
Currently, fans are waiting to hear from Disney if the show will be renewed for additional seasons. But it has been confirmed that the show will go on with the BBC, even if Disney doesn’t continue to be involved.
Coming soon, viewers can also anticipate the spin-off series, The War Between the Land and the Sea, which is slated to premiere next year.
