As you might anticipate, Atlus isn’t sharing many specifics about the Persona 4 Revival project right now – however, series producer Kazuhisa Wada has discussed the team’s general plan for it.
During a recent interview with Japanese website 4Gamer (translated by Persona Central), the interviewer pressed Wada to share anything about the upcoming game, Revival. This is because, so far, we’ve only received a single, short trailer.
While Wada doesn’t reveal a lot of details, his response indicates that Revival will likely be of a similar scale to Persona 3 Reload. Essentially, we can expect a game of comparable size and ambition.
He clarifies: “Persona 4 Golden already had a huge amount of content, so when we think about making a new “R” version, it’s not simply about adding *more* stuff. We need to design an experience that feels fresh and fun in a different way.”
Actually, Reload didn’t attempt to change the core of the original Persona 3. Ultimately, it was a very accurate remake in terms of story and how it’s put together, but it still felt fresh and new. We think that’s the point Wada is making.
With that in mind, there appears to be a key distinction between these two remakes. Reload was built upon the original PlayStation 2 version of Persona 3, rather than the more complete FES edition. Instead of including the extra content from FES within the main game, it was released as separate, paid downloadable content called Episode Aigis.
However, it’s generally believed that the upcoming Revival will be built upon the more complete version of Persona 4 Golden, rather than the initial Persona 4. Wada hinted at this in the statement above, and the announcement trailer for Revival also included a song that was originally in Golden.
Wada continues: “To be honest, it’s a tough challenge. But it’s shaping up nicely!”
Regarding a release date for the remake of Revival… it might be a while before we get to play it. Publisher SEGA doesn’t anticipate the game launching until at least the fiscal year 2027.
And on that note, don’t even think about mentioning Persona 6 in the comments section below.
