Science Just Named This “Too Dark for Mainstream Audiences” Horror Movie One of the Scariest Films Ever Made

As a total horror fanatic, I always keep an eye on what the Science of Scare Project comes up with each year. They basically gather a bunch of people to see which horror movies really scare them, and it’s fascinating! It seems like Sinister and Host have been neck and neck for the scariest title for a while now, and 2025’s results are in. Guess what? Sinister is still the most terrifying movie they tested! But this year, something new shook things up – a movie that just came out a few months ago actually made it into the Top 25. If you haven’t seen it yet, you’re in luck – it’s hitting streaming on October 3!

Debuting in the United States on May 30th, Bring Her Back has been ranked as one of the most frightening films ever created by the Science of Scare Project. The movie landed at #24 in their latest research. Directed by Danny and Michael Philippou, this film-a follow-up to Talk to Me-is a powerfully bleak and intense exploration of grief. It’s understandable why participants in the study found it so disturbing. The movie is Certified Fresh on Rotten Tomatoes, earning an 89% rating from critics who described it as “too dark for mainstream audiences.” Horror fans, however, have found it equally terrifying, giving it an audience score of 79%.

Following their father’s unexpected passing, siblings Andy and Piper find themselves under the care of a new foster parent, Laura. While adjusting to life in her remote house, they discover a frightening ceremony that puts both their lives and mental well-being at risk.
