An ultimatum wasn’t enough to save this reality show.
The Ultimatum: Queer Love has been canceled by Netflix after airing for two seasons, several news sources report.
The dating show, hosted by Reba star JoAnna Garcia Swisher, began in 2023 as a continuation of The Ultimatum: Marry or Move On. The show followed same-sex and nonbinary couples who were considering marriage. These couples explored potential relationships with other people, ultimately having to choose between getting engaged, pursuing a new connection, or leaving the experience single.
I’m sad to share that Queer Love won’t be back for a third season, but some good news! Marry or Move On was renewed for season four earlier this year. And the really exciting part is that this whole world is growing – we now have international versions of the show in both France and South Africa! It’s fantastic to see the love spreading globally.
TopMob News has reached out to Netflix for comment but has not heard back.
The second season of Queer Love, released on the streaming platform in June, featured six couples and plenty of relationship challenges. Consider Britney and AJ, for example, who risked it all as they thought about making a bigger commitment to each other.
“I’m done waiting,” Britney stated, having just given her girlfriend a firm choice. “You’re the one I want, so let’s get married. It’s simple: you either want to marry me, or you don’t.”
Okay, so I’ve been following this show *obsessively*, and you won’t believe this! Apparently, the whole premise of them finding love by living with a “trial wife” wasn’t exactly how it started. I found out they were actually meeting up twice–twice!-before they even *started* the trial marriages! It’s crazy! I mean, the show makes it seem so spontaneous, but they were secretly getting to know each other beforehand. Mind. Blown.
“To be honest, when I first met [AJ], I was just really upset,” Britney shared in an interview with Francesca Amiker of TopMob News. “I was finally releasing all the feelings I’d been keeping bottled up during dating week, especially since I hadn’t been able to see her… I was both crying and shouting.”
However, the couple eventually understood that they had to treat the experiment with genuine commitment if they wanted to really see if their love could endure.
I honestly thought, ‘Continuing to force a connection outside of our trial marriages won’t help us,’ TopMob reported AJ saying. ‘If we’re truly meant to be together, it will happen. And if not, we’ll both grow from this experience and gain more from it than we would in a typical relationship.’
Luckily, the difficult experience ended up being worth it, as AJ decided to propose during the last ultimatum.
“You’re even better than I ever imagined,” Britney shared in an Instagram post celebrating her engagement to AJ. “My love for you has no limits.”
