There’s a lot of excitement building for the release of Battlefield 6 on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S on October 10th, and experts believe it will be a big success for EA and Battlefield Studios. Christopher Dring from The Game Business reports that several data tracking companies – including Circana, Ampere, and Press Engine – are predicting a huge launch for the game. However, when looking at past sales figures, it’s unlikely to outsell Call of Duty: Black Ops 7.
For example, Ampere predicts that Battlefield 6 will sell 5 million copies across all platforms within its first week. This prediction is based on the fact that the open beta reportedly attracted around 22 million players, according to estimates. Newzoo estimates this number to be slightly higher, at 25 million players. The firm compared peak player numbers for the Battlefield 6 beta to those of the Battlefield 2042 beta. Battlefield 6 reached 10.4 million concurrent players at its peak, while Battlefield 2042 peaked at 5.1 million.
Ampere also looked at how players behaved, and found that some Call of Duty players who tried the Battlefield 6 beta didn’t go back to playing their usual game. This varied depending on the gaming system: 29% of Xbox players didn’t return to Call of Duty, while 24% of PlayStation players did not. PC players showed the biggest shift, with 48% of Steam users not going back to Call of Duty after trying the Battlefield 6 beta. The firm also estimates that Battlefield 6 has received 1.7 million pre-orders on Steam.
It’s important to remember that it could be hard to directly compare how interested people are in Battlefield 6 and Call of Duty: Black Ops 7. Both are popular military shooter games, but they offer very different ways to play. Call of Duty is famous for its quick, action-packed multiplayer, usually with smaller teams – often six players competing in different objectives. Battlefield, however, focuses on much larger battles, frequently including vehicles. Plus, there isn’t much information available about Call of Duty: Black Ops 7, like how many people have pre-ordered the game.
In the end, both Battlefield 6 and Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 are expected to be successful for their companies. Contrary to what former Blizzard president Mike Ybarra stated in August, Battlefield 6’s launch won’t significantly hurt this year’s Call of Duty, as the two games will probably appeal to different players.
Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 is scheduled to launch one month after Battlefield 6. The game will be available on PC, PlayStation 4 and 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S, with a release date of November 14th. While you wait, you can learn about the plans from Treyarch and Raven Software to combat cheaters and hackers in the upcoming Black Ops 7 beta.
