**Warning: Contains spoilers for Him**
The new movie Him has recently been released in UK cinemas, just a few weeks after it came out in the US – and it’s likely that viewers will have mixed reactions to how it ends.
The movie features Tyriq Withers (known from I Know What You Did Last Summer) as Cameron ‘Cam’ Cade, a promising young American football quarterback. He gets the chance to train with his hero – the celebrated quarterback Isaiah White (played by Marlon Wayans) – while trying to bounce back from an injury that could end his career.
What initially appears to be a fantastic opportunity quickly descends into something unsettling, as the film takes some truly wild turns. Cam faces a growing number of difficult challenges, and it becomes evident that dark forces are involved.
Everything builds to a stunning discovery: Cam could become a legendary football player if he drinks Isaiah’s blood. This is part of an ancient tradition where the talents of history’s greatest players are transferred to the next generation through this very unusual method – a longstanding ritual involving this rather unorthodox means.
Upon learning he has to fight Isaiah to the death for the title of GOAT (Greatest of All Time) and continue the legacy, Cam is understandably hesitant. This leads him to go on a violent outburst, resulting in multiple deaths, and he ultimately refuses to sign the contract that would have made him the next GOAT.
The film contains some powerful moments, and director Justin Tipping revealed he filmed multiple endings before choosing the final one. While he believes all the versions maintained the core themes and message of the movie, there was a time when a significantly different conclusion was considered.
There was a feeling that, as a group, we arrived at a version that was strangely optimistic, even healing, and enjoyable, while also being a bit messed up – which really mirrored the idea of a high-profile, professional league and everything involved in attracting players, even if it potentially risked their well-being.

However, Marlon Wayans hopes to share one particular ending with audiences sometime in the future.
“I’m really excited about the alternative ending,” he said. “I still think the current ending is great, but there’s a hidden detail – an Easter egg – that you’ll discover when it’s available on streaming. Honestly, that version is my favourite because it ties everything together… but I won’t spoil anything!”
“That’s what I love about filmmaking,” Tyriq Withers explained. “It’s a completely creative effort, with a team of filmmakers collaborating to share a narrative. The amazing part is that a story can have countless endings, and this is the one we chose.”
It was a thrilling experience – filming something and not knowing the final result until you see it with an audience in a screening room.
