It’s been an incredible journey for fans of the series, but sadly, all good things eventually finish – though many wished the ending had been more spectacular. Episode 8, “The Real Monsters,” attempted to wrap up several storylines, while also hinting at the possibility of a continuation. However, if there was one character viewers were especially eager to see face a difficult challenge, it was the notorious Eye Midge.
Possibly the most memorable alien besides the famous xenomorph, the T.Ocellus initially led viewers to expect a thrilling conclusion filled with its distinctive, hollow eyes. Sadly, Alien: Earth didn’t fully capitalize on the creature’s promise. Many fans were left wondering if all the anticipation surrounding the Eyeball monster was ever intended to lead to a satisfying resolution.
The Eye Midge Blinked Right Past Its Chance To Shine In The Finale
Alien: Earth’s season finale offered a lot to consider, and fans were especially intrigued by what happened with the show’s most popular character. For much of the last four episodes, a disturbing alien creature had been stuck inside the eye socket of a sheep. Luckily, things became very exciting when Boy Kavalier suggested creating a custom human body for the alien, hoping to finally have the intelligent conversation he’d wanted for a long time.
Viewers had a general idea of who the unlucky person might be, but the anticipation building up to the reveal wasn’t quite as satisfying as fans had hoped. It’s fair to say that T.Ocellus’s quick battle with a grown xenomorph on the Maginot was definitely the most thrilling part of the show. Unfortunately, the series didn’t manage to recapture that excitement in the later episodes.
What people found most interesting about the Eye Midge was its role in bringing about Isaac’s death. Aside from that, the alien remained largely in the background and didn’t seem to have any real involvement in the final episode. It was a letdown that, after portraying the Eyeball monster as a highly intelligent and dangerous creature, the finale didn’t reveal what its overall plan was.
It’s clear the alien’s ability to understand and intercept communications from the xenomorphs suggests there’s a deeper story unfolding – but what is the ultimate goal? The show creates suspense by focusing on the Eye’s actions and its inherent need for a host. Eventually, even if Alien: Earth intended to address this in Season 2, the finale should have offered some indication of a plan or an explanation for the Eye Midge’s part in the larger story. This would help viewers understand its purpose. At the very least, some clues were needed.
Fans Have Been Rooting For T.Ocellus Carnage In The Finale
Whether people liked it or not, the audience really wanted a violent ending. Even though intense action is usually important at the end of stories like this, Alien: Earth didn’t take enough risks. The only significant death was when one of Joe’s fellow soldiers was pulled into the alien plant.
Beyond that, the viewers were left wondering what would happen with the aliens, as Wendy seemed to be giving them an opportunity to retaliate for being held captive. Fortunately, fans did get a short but thrilling scene featuring the Eyeball monster. It was already widely expected that Joe Hermit was a prime candidate to be possessed by Kavalier, since controlling him would give an advantage against Wendy.
It wasn’t surprising when Atom was sent to get him, bringing Joe to a room with an empty tank. The T. Ocellus immediately attacked at the sight of fresh meat, but Kavalier didn’t acknowledge Joe’s quick thinking. However, Joe had no chance against the Eye Midge’s incredible speed and intelligence. Fortunately, Wendy showed up right when she did, causing the creature to retreat – and that ended the immediate threat. The remainder of the episode explained how everything connected, as the hybrids rebelled against their creators and discovered the full extent of their abilities.
Alien: Earth Failed To Lean Into The Eyeball Monster’s Endgame
The big question was who would be T. Ocellus’s next target. While viewers correctly guessed Hermit’s fate, things unexpectedly played out in reverse. A quick glimpse showed the Eyeball fleeing the facility and discovering a deceased person on the beach, preparing to possess them.
Yes, in a surprising twist, the Eye Midge dislodged Arthur’s decaying eye and entered his brain, and surprisingly, he was revived. It was completely unexpected, but ultimately, it didn’t change the outcome of the story. The whole scene felt like it was designed to potentially set up another installment, though whether that will happen remains to be seen. It was quite the setup!
It was disappointing that we didn’t get to learn more about this amazing alien creature, which had captivated everyone. Similar to the fans, we were hoping for a real conversation with it-to finally hear its perspective. The choice of the ‘right’ host for the Midge seemed strange; he had so many options, but the opportunity passed. Now, audiences are left wondering if it will ever happen, stuck in a never-ending state of uncertainty-will it happen or not? It’s frustrating!
It might seem repetitive to say this, but the story would have ended better if Boy K had been the focus instead of Arthur. However, it’s clear that Hawley isn’t finished with Boy K – particularly after he was so thoroughly defeated and humiliated. Everyone in that cell – human, cyborg, and synth alike – thought they were in control or could impose their will without facing repercussions, but just like in the original Alien, they were proven wrong. Ultimately, Alien: Earth concluded strongly, though viewers are still eager for more. For now, they can only hope that Hawley revisits the unanswered questions, whether that involves the Eyeball monster, the xenomorph, or Wendy.
