Nintendo Game Boy Advance Game From 2006 Returns Next Week With New Re-Release

A Nintendo Game Boy Advance and DS game from 2006 is getting a new release next week. Since this game was previously only available on the Game Boy Advance or DS, this will be the first chance for a lot of players to experience it. Plus, many gamers playing today weren’t even interested in video games almost twenty years ago.

On October 10th, players on Nintendo Switch, PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X will finally be able to experience Scurge: Hive, nearly two decades after it first launched. This release is made possible by Ratalaika Games and Shinyuden. The Nintendo Switch 2 is the only platform where the game won’t be directly available, but it *will* be playable on the original Switch console through backward compatibility. We now know when and where you can play, but the price for this retro classic has yet to be announced.

About the Game

The original Scurge: Hive wasn’t developed by either of the studios previously mentioned. Instead, it was created by Orbital Media and released by SouthPeak Interactive, and unfortunately, both of those companies are now out of business. Prior to their closure in 2006, they joined forces to produce this sci-fi action-adventure game. Their collaboration was fairly successful, as shown by the game’s score of 76 on Metacritic. Despite this, the game didn’t gain enough popularity to warrant a follow-up. Therefore, it’s quite unexpected to see it reappear after nearly two decades.

In this game, you take on the role of Jenosa Armaon, a well-known bounty hunter. The military has hired her to retrieve a top-secret research lab on a far-off planet. The lab was taken over by a dangerous virus called the “Scurge,” which can control any living thing it infects.

This isn’t simply a direct copy of the original, however. The developers have enhanced the classic game with features like rewind and turbo controls, screen filters, a cheat mode, save states, and other modern improvements. Aside from these additions, the port remains true to the original game.

Scurge: Hive probably won’t get a follow-up, and it wasn’t a standout title on the Game Boy Advance or DS when it first came out. So, if you never played it before, this new release might not be a must-have. But, if you’re feeling nostalgic for Game Boy Advance and DS games – which are becoming rare in 2025 since there haven’t been many re-releases – this could be just what you’re looking for. And, another classic Game Boy game is expected to be released this winter.

With that being said, please feel free to share your thoughts in the comments below, or continue the discussion on the ComicBook Forum.
