Scheana Shay is pumping the brakes on claims from her former Vanderpump Rules costar.
A 40-year-old criticized Lala Kent, 35, because she blamed their continuing disagreement on Lala taking too long to publicly acknowledge Scheana’s autobiography, My Good Side, on social media.
“I’m a real person, not a bot. You can’t just request things from me like that,” Lala explained on the September 29th episode of her Untraditionally Lala podcast. “I have a life outside of work. I shared information about the book both when pre-orders were announced and again when I received my copy.”
However, Scheana doesn’t feel that Lala provided “the complete truth.”
I really feel I need to explain things, because Lala knows exactly why our friendship is where it is right now,” I shared on the October 3rd episode of my Scheananigans podcast. “Honestly, this isn’t simply about her not sharing my book for a week. It’s so much bigger than that.
Actually, Scheana shared that the conflict also stems from Lala telling their The Valley castmate Jenna Willis-with whom Scheana admits she hasn’t been close since filming ended in September 2024-about Scheana’s husband Brock Davies’ affair from 2020. Lala had learned this information privately before sharing it.
Scheana explained, “Lala did that to show me some compassion,” she continued, “because she felt Jenna was being really harsh with her criticism and wanted to share what I was privately dealing with.”
Although she thinks Lala didn’t mean to cause harm, she feels that a friend of 15 years could have reacted differently to the situation. She believes Lala’s intent “was not malicious,” but knows that “someone I’ve had a friendship with for 15 years” could have handled things in a better way.
Oh my god, can you *imagine* if someone came up to Jenna and was like, ‘Listen, I just found out something *so* heartbreaking and private about what Scheana has been dealing with for, like, the past couple of years. I know she’s finally going to share it in her book, and it’s not really my place to say anything… but seriously, you *have* to give this girl some grace!’? Scheana said that would have been *enough*. Instead of, you know, just spilling *everything* and telling her all the details.
Scheana says that Jenna went on to share the news of Brock’s affair with several other people-something she’d kept secret for years.
“I held onto this for two years, and then I confided in one of my very best friends, only for you to go and tell someone else,” Scheana said. “It was incredibly painful.”
She mentioned about Lala, “I understand she was really upset. She discussed it with Brock and others. However, I felt that this wasn’t an isolated event. We had already been having problems with two prior incidents, and this just pushed me to the breaking point.”
Read on for more revelations that were detailed in Scheana’s My Good Side memoir.
It seems appropriate that Scheana Shay, who was 21 at the time, met Eddie Cibrian, 12 years her senior, while working as a waitress at a Los Angeles cigar bar, considering their relationship was largely based on illusion and deception.
As a lifestyle expert, I’ve heard a lot of stories, but this one is particularly interesting. In my 2025 memoir, My Good Side, I described him as “the sweetest, funniest, most charismatic, consummate gentleman I’d ever met.” Interestingly, I noted he “never wore a wedding ring,” even though he was married to Brandi Glanville and had two sons with her. Honestly, I just assumed he was single! It sounds silly now, but I didn’t even realize he was famous – I really never thought to look him up.
They weren’t in a relationship, but they had a regular “booty call” arrangement beginning in late 2006. Even when another member of their group eventually informed her that he was married, she stated, “I didn’t want to believe it.” She explained, “We were always out together in public, so I didn’t feel like I was being kept a secret!”
Oh my gosh, after I found out what *really* happened, I totally blocked him! It was awful, but then, six months later, he reached out again. He apologized so much, seriously, it was endless! He told me – and I couldn’t believe it – that he and Brandi were actually separated. I was shocked, honestly! It was such a relief to hear, even after everything.
Eddie rekindled their connection by giving her diamond earrings, telling her he loved her, and then surprised her with a snowboarding trip. She felt it “seemed like a huge step in our relationship.”
In March 2009, she discovered his affair with LeAnn Rimes publicized on magazine covers. She wrote, “I was definitely angry that Eddie never even had the courage to talk to me directly about it.” However, she continued, “I moved past it, and I haven’t seen Eddie since.”
I was so fascinated watching Scheana’s love life unfold! While she was with Eddie, she was also getting to know Jesse Metcalfe, the gardener from Desperate Housewives. She told me they’d have dinner with his parents at his place, and when it was just the two of them, he’d play guitar and sing to me-he even did ‘Hey There Delilah’! It honestly felt like a dream come true, being with someone I’d admired on TV and in movies for years.
She also revealed she had a casual relationship with John Mayer. She explained, “I kept things very private because I still wanted to spend time with him. But one of my friends unfortunately told others.” She wrote that after her friend shared the news, “He didn’t want to talk to me or see me anymore, thinking I was the one who had been sharing our private moments.”
While sharing her stories, she revealed that she’s dated a number of famous men, including: Shemar Moore, Josh Hopkins, Shane West, Jesse McCartney, JC Chasez, Adrian Grenier, Ricardo Chavira, William Tell, two of the stars from The Notebook, and several athletes from the NFL, NBA, and MLB, among others.
Back when Scheana’s future was still unwritten, she made an uncredited cameo on The Hills in 2009.
While at Hollywood club H.Wood, she was shocked when her friend Stacie Adams was publicly labeled a ‘homewrecker’ for speaking with Spencer Pratt. At the same time, she and another friend were insultingly called ‘whes’ and ‘sluts’.
Scheana explained that none of it was genuine, sharing how Heidi Montag approached her in a car after filming finished. Scheana wrote that Heidi was very kind, completely different from the harsh persona MTV portrayed. “She said, ‘Hey guys, I’m sorry if I seemed mean, it was all just for the show. You understand that, right?'”
However, the real standout moment in reality TV came from Lisa Vanderpump. She asked Scheana to help with the launch party for SUR, which was filmed for an episode of The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills that aired in January 2012.
As a longtime fan, I remember when Lisa invited RHOBH castmate Brandi to an event. Scheana later shared that she “had zero suspicion that I was walking into a setup for a spin-off,” explaining that Lisa seemed to be intentionally leading to her own Vanderpump Rules series. Scheana felt it ultimately made her look foolish on national television.
Lisa guided her over to Brandi and told her to offer guests the appetizers on a tray. When she found out about the relationship with Eddie, Scheana wrote, “Lisa acted as though she was shocked.”
More recently-following the latest changes to the VPR cast-Scheana was speaking with a producer. She wrote that they were discussing how the show began, and the producer said, “Lisa was concerned that the cast member with a Disney background who was connected to Eddie wouldn’t join the show.” Scheana explained that they were talking about her directly to her face. Essentially, they revealed that Lisa had known about her affair with Eddie from the beginning and had actually *used* that knowledge to get VPR started.
Those years should have been the happiest of her life. However, less than two years after marrying her high school sweetheart Michael Shay, Scheana filed for divorce while filming a show-she was exhausted by his continued use of Adderall and what she described as his infidelity.
And she admitted her feet began cooling even before she walked down the aisle in 2014.
It was heartbreaking, but my wedding night was when I first began to suspect my husband was struggling with addiction,” she explained. She had requested he not drink anything at their reception, and she was happy he respected that wish.
Back at one of the rental homes for the wedding party, she said she noticed he seemed out of it. “I noticed that his eyes were completely glazed over, and he was unsteady on his feet,” she explained. A few weeks later, everything clicked when fellow cast member Tom Sandoval “offered us some small blue pills, saying they were Ecstasy.”
She immediately said no, but Shay, looking confused, said, “Wait, that looks like the pill you gave me at the wedding. I thought it was Adderall.” We were both stunned. Shay hadn’t meant to get high that night-he just wanted an Adderall to help him stay awake later.” (TopMob News has contacted Tom and Michael’s representatives for a statement, but they haven’t responded yet.)
Even though Scheana brought plenty of drama to the first seven seasons of Vanderpump Rules, she found out she was being reduced to a “friend of” role just before going on Watch What Happens Live.
While speaking with host Andy Cohen, she shared, “I was crying uncontrollably.” He responded with compassion, saying, “We’re almost live. You need to compose yourself, deliver excellent television, and prove you’ve earned your place on the show.”
She received another upsetting phone call before season 10 began. This time, Scheana said her relationship with her husband, Brock Davies, was the problem. She explained that his history-which included admitting to hitting his former wife and having a difficult relationship with their children, Eli and Winter-didn’t sit well with viewers.
Scheana explained, “He was welcome to join when we all hung out as a group, but the producers wouldn’t be telling him when and where to be for filming.”
In other words, she said, “It felt like a total f–k-you.”
Scheana felt that Vanderpump Rules producers would occasionally focus on portraying her negatively. She pointed to a confession from former editor Bri Dellinger – who has since been fired – that she actively searched for Scheana’s “most cringeworthy moments and pieced them together.” According to Scheana, she had evidence to support this claim.
A particularly shocking moment happened when Scheana was asked to speak with Stassi Schroeder‘s brother, Nikolai Schroeder, who was 15 years old at the time, during Stassi’s engagement party.
I was playfully bothering him, like I would with a younger sibling, and didn’t think anything of it,” Scheana explained, adding that she simply asked him about school, sports, and if he had a girlfriend. “However, after the last episode aired, it seemed like I was flirting with Nikolai, which shocked me. He was only fifteen at the time.”
Scheana felt an immediate connection with a woman she only knew as “DD” when they met at the Stagecoach Music Festival in 2019. They quickly bonded over their shared love for Sam Hunt and continued hanging out in Los Angeles, even sharing a kiss at TomTom one night.
According to Scheana, over the following months, things got strange. She explained, “We’d get drunk, kiss, and then *tell* everyone we were a couple.”
Scheana was left feeling puzzled, questioning her sexuality – was she attracted to both men and women, feeling isolated, tired of dating men, or just drawn to this particular woman?
It felt like something more than just friendship, but not strong enough to start a relationship,” Scheana explained, adding that she was concerned about what her traditional family and VPR fans would think. “A part of me wanted to tell DD how I felt, to see if she felt the same way, but I was more afraid of being rejected than I was interested in exploring what could have been between us.”
They then encountered Brock at a music festival in September. While he first showed interest in DD, she explained that they simply didn’t have compatible personalities. This allowed a connection to develop between him and Scheana instead.
After falling in love on a trip to Australia and Bali in November, Scheana described an incident while out with DD. She said that, like they used to, DD kissed her, which made Brock very upset. “He told me, ‘You’re my girlfriend now. You can’t do that. You and she used to be together, and that needs to stop, or I’m leaving,'” Scheana explained.
As a lifestyle expert, I was so touched to hear Scheana’s story. She shared back in October 2020 that she and Brock were expecting a beautiful Summer Moon Honey Davies – a true ‘rainbow baby,’ which is a term for a child born after a loss. It happened just months after a heartbreaking miscarriage. And while they weren’t actively *trying* to conceive, Scheana playfully hinted that Brock could work on his reflexes a bit!
Just nine days before shooting for season 9 started, Scheana had a scary experience: her blood pressure suddenly went very high 15 hours into labor, and she was worried something terrible might happen.
I realized I was being self-centered, wanting to have a baby primarily to document it for a TV show,” she wrote, “and then the baby’s heart rate began to fall.
Scheana didn’t realize she had a dangerous type of preeclampsia called HELLP syndrome. “It was a miracle I was induced,” she said. “If I’d waited and delivered naturally, the doctors might not have detected my preeclampsia, and I could have suffered a stroke or even died.”
Thankfully, her anxieties didn’t disappear even after Summer was born, appearing “limp and blue” – something often seen when mothers receive magnesium through an IV. She was later diagnosed with postpartum OCD, and Scheana says therapy was crucial in addressing problems such as her long-held habit of following “precisely 420 people on Instagram,” or her worry about taking Summer to Disneyland by herself.
Scheana shared that she’s still actively using various types of exposure therapy to deal with her past struggles. She hopes this will help her overcome the things that bother her.
Let’s celebrate the clever planning that led to such a dramatic season finale! The whole cast came together in California’s Santa Ynez Valley for James Kennedy and Rachel “Raquel” Leviss‘ engagement party. Scheana revealed, “the plan was for me and Brock to have a secret elopement while we were there.” She added that after having a very public, extravagant wedding with Shay on television, “all I cared about was marrying Brock.”
And possibly guaranteeing a 10th season. Although she ultimately decided against it, not wanting to overshadow the other woman who was getting married, Scheana explained, “Everyone was feeling a lot of pressure to create a dramatic final episode,” and “we all worried about losing our jobs if we didn’t deliver something exciting.”
Therefore, Lala Kent, Ariana Madix, and Katie Maloney came up with a strategy: Lala would inform James and Rachel that Scheana was attempting to take over their special occasion.
Scheana explained that this surprising news would likely cause some drama, but she hoped it would also ensure the show got renewed for another season. She jokingly added, “Job security, check!“
Following the argument, Scheana shared, “I rode back to the hotel with Brock and Lala in the same car.” She continued, “We had all been arguing, but then we ended up driving away together quietly.”
Following a press event in March 2023, Rachel and Schena were at a bar in New York City when Rachel unexpectedly walked out with Tom’s girlfriend, Ariana, with the call still audible on speakerphone.
When Scheana inquired about the situation, Rachel “looked at me blankly and admitted, ‘Tom Sandoval and I have been involved romantically for the past seven months. Ariana recently discovered this.’”
Overcome with anger, Scheana threw Rachel’s phone into the street. When Rachel reached for her arm, Scheana explained, “I pushed her away from me.” She continued, “Rachel came at me again, so I pushed her a second time.”
Back at the hotel, Scheana said she called Ariana and told her, “I pushed that woman and threw her phone into the street.” She explained that Ariana had her on speakerphone, and Tom could be heard in the background. Apparently, he misunderstood and thought she said, “I punched that woman.” Scheana admitted it was a very emotional night, but insisted, “I did not punch Raquel.”
That’s why Scheana was so upset when Rachel seemed to alter her account of events. Scheana pointed out that Rachel had filed both a police report and a temporary restraining order in Los Angeles (the restraining order was later withdrawn). Scheana wrote, “This girl was willing to lie about me, put my livelihood and reputation in jeopardy, as well as expose herself to serious legal issues for filing a false report, just so that the media would go easier.” (Rachel, however, explained that the TRO was “intended to provide a cooling-off period after I was punched, but I didn’t want to continue with the permanent RO.”)
Although the drama surrounding “Scandoval” took over all of season 10, another story about cheating was unfolding with someone closer to home. Scheana explained that rumors were circulating about Brock and Rachel, and he was worried the truth would come out. She stated, “He was afraid that something that actually was true might surface, and it was best that I heard it directly from him.”
In the spring of 2023, Scheana discovered that Brock-who, according to her, was “afraid of becoming a dad again”-had a short-term affair with someone he knew before she became pregnant with their child.
I just lost it, honestly! I couldn’t help myself – I slapped him and, like, instinctively chucked a Rubik’s cube at him, but thankfully he dodged it. But once I got past being completely furious, I started really trying to fix things with us. I mean, I began to work on solving the problems in our relationship, you know?
She confessed that she probably wouldn’t have married Brock if she’d been aware of the truth, and that without Summer, “my reaction would have been very different.”
However, Scheana explained, “When it came down to a decision, I faced a difficult choice.” She continued, “I had two options: Option A was to end things with Brock and our family, which would mean giving up everything we’d built, hurting my family, and letting anger consume me. Or, Option B: I could choose forgiveness. I could start releasing the negativity and resentment and continue to heal and grow.”
It seems Scheana’s well-known song isn’t as profitable as people might think. Even though the catchy tune has been featured on VPR multiple times and even in an Uber Eats commercial, “To this day, I haven’t earned a penny off of ‘Good As Gold,’ aside from vinyl sales,” the singer revealed. This is because, early in her career, her manager at the time connected her with his lawyer.
In hindsight, sharing a lawyer probably wasn’t the smartest move, but I was naive then,” Scheana explained. She said she believed him when he asked her to sign documents, describing them as “all standard.”
However, she explained, “It seems one of the signed documents transferred the rights to ‘Good As Gold’ to him. I don’t currently have copies of that contract, and I’m not even sure I ever did. I’ve tried for years to regain the rights to my work or get copies of our original agreement, but haven’t succeeded. Perhaps things will be different now.”
