Nintendo Switch Exclusive RPG Finally Getting Released in the United States After Year-Long Wait

After a year of waiting, a game exclusive to the Nintendo Switch is now available in the United States. Sadly, there won’t be a version specifically for the new Nintendo Switch 2 console. Players with the new console will have to play the original Switch version using backward compatibility. Regardless of which console you have – the new one or the older one – everyone who’s excited about the game will still need to be patient for a little while longer.

The Nintendo Switch game Stray Children will be released in western regions on October 30th, following its initial launch in Japan on December 26, 2024. Along with the western release, the role-playing game will also become available on Steam on the same day. Currently, there are no plans to release the game on Xbox or PlayStation consoles, meaning it will stay exclusive to Nintendo.

About the Game

If you haven’t heard of Stray Children, released in 2024, it’s an RPG where you play as a boy who unexpectedly travels to a strange world. This happens after he activates an old console hidden in a secret, ancient room. The world he finds is unique – it’s populated entirely by children. But beware! Outside the safety of their settlement, monstrous adults roam and will attack. If that description sounds unusual, that’s because the game is unusual-and that’s a good thing.

If Stray Children is unfamiliar to you, you might know the game’s creator, Onion Games. This studio, based in Tokyo, was established in 2012 and has released a number of games, including the beloved Moon: Remix RPG Adventure. They have a unique and recognizable style that doesn’t appeal to everyone, but they’ve built a dedicated fanbase over the past ten years.

We know when the Nintendo Switch exclusive game will be released, but we don’t yet know how much it will cost. Currently, it’s priced at ¥3,999 in Japan, which works out to around $27 USD. We expect it to cost around $30 USD in other regions, but $25 is also a possibility. It appears the game will only be available through the Nintendo eShop when it launches. There are no plans for a physical copy that have been announced, and if one *does* become available, it will likely be a limited run.

If this new Nintendo Switch RPG doesn’t appeal to you, don’t worry – there are lots of other games launching on Switch consoles this month. You’ll find some excellent horror titles just in time for Halloween, as well as the re-release of some of Nintendo’s greatest games of all time.

With that being said, please feel free to share your thoughts in the comments below, or discuss it further on the ComicBook Forum. Are you planning to get this Nintendo Switch game when it comes out?
