A fantastic aspect of streaming services is their ability to revive movies long after they’ve left cinemas, and this is particularly noticeable with action films. It’s quite common for an action movie that initially received mixed reactions from critics and viewers to gain popularity on streaming platforms. We recently saw this happen with Liam Neeson’s Ice Road: Vengeance, which unexpectedly did well on Netflix, and now another film is hoping for a similar boost after finding surprise success on a free streaming service just weeks ago.
Gerard Butler fans can now stream one of his top action movies, Angel Has Fallen, which just became available on Netflix. This comes shortly after the film appeared in the top 10 on Tubi, a free streaming service. The movie is the third installment in the popular …Has Fallen series and stars Butler alongside Morgan Freeman, Jada Pinkett Smith, Tim Blake Nelson, and the late Lance Riddick. Interestingly, the first two films, Olympus Has Fallen and London Has Fallen, aren’t currently available on any streaming platforms (unless you’re willing to spend over $60 a month for YouTube). So, if you want to watch Gerard Butler as the ever-unfortunate Agent Mike Banning, this is your chance!
Critics Dismissed Angel Has Fallen But Fans Loved It (And Are Hopeful For a Fourth Film)
Angel Has Fallen is a good example of a movie where critics and audiences strongly disagreed. Reviewers generally disliked the film, giving it a 38% rating on Rotten Tomatoes and often criticizing its predictable plot and lack of tension. But viewers had a much more positive reaction, awarding it a 93% rating and specifically enjoying the action sequences and the on-screen chemistry between Gerard Butler and Morgan Freeman.
Positive reactions from fans and strong box office numbers led to plans for sequels – a fourth, fifth, and sixth film – and even television shows, announced soon after Angel Has Fallen came out. In 2020, it was confirmed that Gerard Butler would return for the fourth movie, Night Has Fallen, but there haven’t been many updates since. Considering the film’s past success in cinemas and its recent popularity on Tubi, if Angel Has Fallen also does well on Netflix, it could give Night Has Fallen the boost it needs to move forward. The franchise still appears to have potential – the TV series Paris Has Fallen, which takes place in the Has Fallen world, debuted on Hulu in December 2024, and a second series, Apollo Has Fallen, started filming earlier this year.
Angel Has Fallen is now streaming on Netflix.
