Monster Hunter Wilds: How To Equip Pictomancy

Here’s a complete guide to Pictomancy in Monster Hunter Wilds, covering everything from how to get it equipped to the most effective ways to use it, and much more. We’ll break down all the details you need to know about this new mechanic, including optimal strategies and tips for success.

The newest update for Monster Hunter Wilds offers a lot of fresh content for players who are coming back to the game. It includes new Event Quests and a brand-new monster called Omega Planetes, giving fans plenty to explore. Unlike most updates which just add a monster or two, some Event Quests, and the Season of Accord, this update (TU3) offers even more – including a completely new way to play with Pictomancy, a new tool and playstyle.

Pictomancy was added with the Final Fantasy 14 collaboration and works as an extra feature during hunts. It’s a method for dealing more damage, particularly in the Omega Planetes hunts. However, the game doesn’t clearly explain how to get and use Pictomancy Spells.

Here’s a complete guide to Pictomancy in Monster Hunter Wilds, covering how to get and use these spells. This includes information on equipping them as well.

What Is Pictomancy in Monster Hunter Wilds?

Pictomancy functions as an extra ability you can use whenever you’re in battle. It’s comparable to Akuma’s skills introduced with the Street Fighter 6 update (in TU2). But, unlike those Akuma skills, Pictomancy doesn’t require a specific armor set or Layered Armor. You can add Pictomancy to your quick access bar or Radial Menu just like any other tool.

Although it’s not required, Pictomancy is very helpful when fighting Omega Planetes. You can cast three different spells with Pictomancy: Pom Motif, Wing Motif, and Mog of the Ages. Pom Motif has a 15-second cooldown. Wing Motif and Mog of the Ages both have a 30-second cooldown. Keep in mind that you can’t just cast any spell whenever you want.

You’ll generally begin with Pom Motif and work your way towards Mog of the Ages. Pom Motif typically deals around 800 damage in total, while Wing Motif can inflict up to 1000 damage if you can cast it directly on Omega. Mog of the Ages does between 990 and 1100 damage, depending on which parts you aim for.

Using Mog of the Ages on a monster’s damaged (or wounded) limb can often inflict over 1100 damage.

How To Equip Pictomancy in Monster Hunter Wilds?

Learning Pictomancy is straightforward. You can find it in your Radial Menu or add it to your quick access bar. To unlock Pictomancy, you’ll first need to reach Hunter Rank (HR) 41 and finish the new quest, The Artifact’s Words. Once you complete The Artifact’s Words, you’ll receive Soul of the Pictomancer, which will let you cast Pictomancy spells.

To use Pictomancy, go to your Pop-up Camp. Then, in the Manage Items section, move the Soul of the Pictomancer to your quick access bar. Once you’ve done that, you can also add Pictomancy (Pom Motif) to your Radial Menu for quick access during battles.
