Original X-Men Star Addresses Avengers: Doomsday Casting Snub (But Does Anyone Believe It?)

The cast announcement for Marvel’s *Avengers: Doomsday* included a big surprise: several actors from the older *X-Men* movies produced by Fox. Performers like Patrick Stewart, Ian McKellen, James Marsden, and Rebecca Romijn are among the 27 stars, giving these actors a chance to say goodbye to their roles before Marvel reboots the *X-Men* franchise. With so many *X-Men* characters appearing – including Channing Tatum returning as Gambit from *Deadpool & Wolverine* – fans are curious about who else might make an appearance. While many are hoping to see Jean Grey, Famke Janssen has indicated that’s unlikely to happen.

In an interview with Screen Rant, actress Famke Janssen admitted she wasn’t sure why her character wasn’t included in the *Doomsday* project. She explained that she’s unfamiliar with the storyline, stating that the comic book world has never really been her focus, even after being involved with it for a while. Janssen expressed her eagerness to see the final product and learn the story alongside the audience.

Will Jean Grey Appear In Avengers: Doomsday?

It’s unclear how important the X-Men will be in *Avengers: Doomsday*, but it would be surprising if Famke Janssen didn’t make an appearance, given how many of her former *X-Men* colleagues are involved. Jean Grey is a powerful and important character who would logically be a key member of any team, across all realities. While her version of the character might have died in the X-Men’s universe—and perhaps hasn’t yet become Phoenix—it would be a letdown if that’s how the story is handled. With *Doomsday* bringing back the actors from the Fox *X-Men* movies, there’s definitely room for Janssen to be involved.

As a huge Marvel fan, I’m still holding out hope for a few more casting announcements for *Doomsday*! Even though they revealed 27 actors during that amazing livestream, Kevin Feige hinted there’d be more to come. We haven’t heard anything since, and now that filming seems to be finished, it’s got me wondering when they’ll drop the next wave of news. I’m really hoping someone like Janet van Dyne could be part of it! Plus, all the buzz about Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman possibly showing up makes me think we might get an even bigger X-Men team than we initially thought – fingers crossed!

It’s common for actors to be secretive about their roles in big movie franchises – Andrew Garfield’s repeated denials about being in *Spider-Man: No Way Home* are a perfect example. While Janine Janssen might be telling the truth, it’s also possible she’s already filmed scenes for *Avengers: Doomsday* and is keeping it a secret to avoid spoilers. Marvel is very careful to prevent leaks, and earlier this year Kelsey Grammer mentioned he hadn’t even seen a script for the movie, adding to the mystery.

Famke Janssen has previously said she’d be interested in playing Jean Grey again, and would probably return for the upcoming *Doomsday* movie if Marvel asked her. Bringing her back could address past issues; Janssen had felt unfairly excluded from playing the older version of the character, pointing to sexism in Hollywood, especially compared to how Patrick Stewart and Ian McKellen were able to continue their roles in later *X-Men* films. With *Doomsday* expected to be the last time the original Fox cast members play these roles, it would be a fitting tribute to include Janssen and give her a final chance to shine before a new actress takes on the part of Jean Grey.
