Despite the rise of digital games, people are still buying physical copies for the PS5, and Ghost of Yotei has been a particularly strong seller.
According to Chris Dring of GamesIndustry.biz, the sequel to the samurai game is off to a strong start, debuting at the top of the UK physical sales charts this week.
It sold better than EA Sports FC 26 and tripled the sales of Super Mario Galaxy 1 + 2 on the Nintendo Switch.
However, it did tally a 40% decline in retail sales compared to Ghost of Tsushima.
Just to emphasize, the digital market has expanded hugely in recent years, and most game sales now happen online. Sucker Punch’s last game also launched when many people were staying home due to the pandemic.
While initial signs for Ghost of Yotei’s release are promising when compared to other games, they don’t give us a complete picture of what to expect.
Sony might share how well the game is doing worldwide, but they usually only announce sales numbers when a game is performing exceptionally well, such as with titles like God of War Ragnarok and Marvel’s Spider-Man 2.
Early indications for Ghost of Yotei, at least in the UK, seem positive though.
