Players who pay for Xbox Game Pass Ultimate or Premium on Xbox One, Xbox Series X, and PC will soon lose access to a highly-rated game from 2023. The game has a score of 89 on Metacritic, making it one of the best titles of the year – especially considering the strong competition from critically acclaimed games like *Baldur’s Gate 3*, *The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom*, and *Resident Evil 4*.
On October 15th, Xbox Game Pass Ultimate and Premium members will no longer be able to play *Cocoon*. They’ll also lose their special 20% discount, meaning the game will go from $20 to $25 for subscribers. Once a game leaves Game Pass, it might not come back – while some games do return, many are gone for good. A few games cycle on and off repeatedly, but there’s no guarantee any specific game will be available again after it’s removed.
About the Game
Okay, so Cocoon is leaving soon – October 15th is just over a week away! I was a little worried I wouldn’t have time to play it, but thankfully it’s a pretty short game, only about five hours long. That means I definitely have enough time to finish it before it goes! I’m really excited to jump in now that I know that.
The game is a puzzle adventure created by Geometric Interactive and published by Annapurna Interactive – it marks Geometric Interactive’s first release. If it feels similar to games like *Limbo* or *Inside*, that’s no coincidence – it was designed by Jeppe Carlsen, who previously worked at Playdead and created those titles.
In this game, you control an insect that can jump between different worlds – a skill you’ll need to learn to solve a large, unfolding mystery. Like games such as *Inside* and *Limbo*, *Cocoon* doesn’t rely on a lot of direct storytelling, which is why its story is kept simple and somewhat mysterious. The puzzles aren’t overly challenging either; the game focuses more on creating a strong atmosphere and a memorable experience for the player, and it does both exceptionally well. In fact, when it was first added to Xbox Game Pass two years ago, subscribers called it the year’s biggest surprise.
If you’re an Xbox Game Pass subscriber looking for a new game, and you’ve already tried or aren’t interested in *Cocoon*, you’re in luck! A highly-rated first-person shooter was just added to the service, and several new games will be available on Game Pass the day they release over the next few weeks.
