So, I was hearing a lot of buzz about Xbox maybe offering a free cloud gaming tier with ads, which sounds pretty cool. But then I saw rumors that their next console was kind of on hold. Luckily, Jez Corden from Windows Central chatted with some reliable sources and said that wasn’t true right now. And then Microsoft themselves confirmed it with a statement, so it looks like the new hardware is still happening!
We’re continuing to invest in the development of future Xbox consoles and devices, which are designed, engineered, and built in-house. You can find more information about our plans in the announcement we made with AMD.
Back in June, Microsoft revealed a long-term partnership with AMD to work together on creating chips for various devices, including future Xbox consoles. This collaboration has sparked speculation about a possible Xbox handheld device. However, Microsoft hasn’t yet announced details about its next Xbox console, including when it might be released.
Even James Corden acknowledged these plans are only temporary. It’s unclear if they’ll stick, particularly considering the recent layoffs and falling sales of Xbox consoles. Adding to the concern, stores like Costco have stopped selling the console altogether.
Good news for gamers: Microsoft is launching the ROG Xbox Ally and Ally X on October 16th, priced at $599.99 and $999.99. You can pre-order them now, and even though some people thought the prices were high (and Microsoft tried to lower them without success), they’re still proving popular.
