Be aware: The following contains significant spoilers for the EastEnders episode that aired on Monday, October 6th, 2025. It is currently available to watch on BBC iPlayer.
Callum Highway (Tony Clay) was shocked when his husband, Ben Mitchell (Max Bowden), unexpectedly showed up at the funeral of Callum’s father, Jonno (Richard Graham).
I couldn’t help but feel for Ben, seeing all those pictures of him with Callum and his little girl, Lexi Pearce – Isabella Brown plays her, by the way. He was clearly desperate to get out of that cell and get going when the guard finally came to get him.
Callum, in Albert Square, was comforted by his partner Johnny Carter. However, Callum asked Johnny to keep his distance, worried it might upset his in-laws who were there to offer their support.
They had agreed to become a couple once the event finished, and shared a kiss in The Queen Vic. However, Ben’s mother, Kathy Beale (Gillian Taylforth), saw the kiss and was very angry.
Honestly, it was a total shock to everyone. The family still thought Ben was locked up in the States, and when Kathy found out Callum had been the one to spill the beans, she just lost it and slapped him! It was a really intense moment, I’m telling you.
Callum trailed behind her to the café, explaining his actions not only to her, but also to Ben’s father, Phil Mitchell (Steve McFadden), and the rest of the Mitchell family.
Callum felt Ben was a hypocrite and questioned why he was now expected to be patient, considering Ben had asked him to wait indefinitely last year when Ben himself wanted out of the marriage.
Callum then asked Johnny to come along with him today, emphasizing that he really wanted Johnny there with him.
Following an encouraging conversation with Harvey Monroe, Kathy asked Callum about his relationship with Johnny, and both men affirmed their strong feelings for each other.
Kathy agreed to keep quiet, so long as Callum flew out to tell Ben the truth, and told Lexi too.
With everything going on, Callum’s brother Stuart Highway showed up, having been convinced by Johnny to come.
I was so shocked when Callum confessed he’d been unfaithful. And then, predictably, Stuart immediately started giving his brother a hard time, joking about how long this new relationship would even last. It was classic Stuart, honestly – always ready with a playful jab.
At the graveyard, Stuart, Callum and Johnny surveyed Jonno’s final resting place.
Callum was completely shocked when a car arrived and Ben emerged, still handcuffed but smiling. Ben joked that he wouldn’t want to miss the funeral for anything.
Will Callum come clean about his affair?
