Taylor Swift Reveals What Fiancé Travis Kelce Said Before His Proposal

Taylor Swift was enchanted by Travis Kelce’s proposal. 

Just over a month after singer Taylor Swift and Kansas City Chiefs player Travis Kelce announced their engagement on August 26th, she shared details about what happened right before he proposed. He asked her to marry him immediately after she finished recording an episode of the New Heights podcast.

Taylor explained to Jimmy Fallon that she believed Travis Kelce created the podcast as a way to keep her attention focused inside and away from the windows of his house. She noted that the entire house had blackout curtains, which showed her how dedicated he was and that she truly appreciated the effort.

Taylor thought Travis was being more private because of her and her album announcement during the livestream. However, his odd behavior continued even after the recording was finished.

She continued, explaining that he was clearly anxious about the podcast. He told her his heart was pounding, and he really wanted it to live up to her expectations.

We had been discussing starting a podcast and revealing the new album, but he suddenly became very anxious. I’d never witnessed him so nervous before.

Still, the 35-year-old admitted she didn’t expect what was to come. 

Let me tell you, sometimes the simplest moments are the most telling. He casually asked if I wanted to stroll through the backyard with a glass of wine, and honestly, my immediate thought was ‘always!’ But then it hit me – that’s when I understood why he’d been so on edge and why all the curtains were drawn. It was a really revealing moment, and I suddenly understood everything.

As she put it, “It was the best possible case scenario.”

Meanwhile, Travis is just as happy to be in his engagement era. 

The 36-year-old shared on the September 3rd episode of New Heights how happy she is to have finally announced who she’ll be spending her life with, calling it a ‘really fun’ and ‘awesome’ experience.

He effused, “I still get giddy, it’s exciting times.”

Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce first connected in July 2023 when Swift’s Eras Tour came to Arrowhead Stadium in Kansas City, Missouri.

Being a big Taylor Swift fan, the Kansas City Chiefs tight end wanted to give her a friendship bracelet with his jersey number on it while at her concert. Unfortunately, he wasn’t able to because she was busy getting ready for the show.

Travis explained on his podcast, *New Heights*, that he was a bit upset Taylor Swift didn’t chat with fans before or after her concerts. He understood she needed to protect her voice for the 44 songs she performs, but he was hoping to give her one of the friendship bracelets he’d made.

Following his widely discussed on-field mistake – which Taylor later playfully called “amazing” – Travis decided to take a chance and invited the famous singer to attend a Kansas City Chiefs game at Arrowhead Stadium.

He explained on *The Pat McAfee Show* that he challenged Taylor Swift, saying he’d seen her perform at Arrowhead Stadium and suggested she come see him perform there too, to see who puts on a better show. He added that fans might find out what happens soon.

Travis had grown a mustache, starting during training camp in August, and that’s how Taylor first met him.

He later recalled that his mustache and number 87 jersey were a memorable look during that time, and he was wearing them when he first met Taylor.

According to a source with knowledge of the matter, Travis and Taylor began communicating via text and phone calls around the beginning of September, as reported by TopMob News.

“It’s been very low-key,” the insider explained, “as he’s been in season.”

I was so excited to hear Taylor accepted Travis’ invitation! She went to Arrowhead Stadium to cheer him and the Chiefs on as they played the Bears, and I loved seeing pictures of her with Travis’ mom, Donna Kelce. The best part? They were spotted showing some serious affection at a bar after the game – they’re adorable together!

Despite rumors that they met for the first time in person, the singer of “Karma” explained that they had actually known each other for quite a while before that.

As Taylor noted, “We would never be psychotic enough to hard launch a first date.” 

To show how serious things were getting, Taylor brought a group of her friends – including Blake Lively, Ryan Reynolds, Sophie Turner, Hugh Jackman, Sabrina Carpenter, and Antoni Porowski – to see the Kansas City Chiefs play the New York Jets at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey.

Taylor Swift seems to be getting close to Brittany Mahomes, the wife of Travis Kelce’s best friend and teammate, Patrick Mahomes, both at and away from football games. This could be another hint that she and Travis are a couple!

The couple publicly showcased their relationship with a surprise appearance on Saturday Night Live on October 14th. They continued their New York outing with a party after the show and a romantic dinner at the Waverly Inn.

During his team’s break, Travis flew to Argentina to see Taylor Swift perform as part of her Eras Tour. At the November 11th show in Buenos Aires, he connected with Taylor’s father, Scott Swift, and even received a mention from Taylor while she was performing.

“Karma is that guy on the Chiefs,” Taylor sang, “coming straight home to me.”

Following the performance, Taylor Swift rushed backstage and excitedly kissed Travis Kelce.

Taylor addressed the lavender craze surrounding her appearances at Travis’ games.

She told *Time* magazine that she and her partner are comfortable supporting each other publicly, even with others around. It’s the opposite of having to hide their relationship and go to great lengths to keep it secret.

 

The famous singer made Travis’s game on December 17th a family event, bringing her father along to support her boyfriend.

Taylor and Travis celebrated New Year’s Eve together and shared a kiss at midnight on January 1st.

Taylor continued getting to know Travis’s family and spent time with his brother, Jason Kelce, and sister-in-law, Kylie Kelce, at the Kansas City Chiefs game against the Buffalo Bills.

After the Chiefs won the AFC Championship and earned a place in the 2024 Super Bowl, Taylor joined Travis on the field. They celebrated with a kiss and then told each other ‘I love you’ for the first time.

“Tay, I’m gonna enjoy with the guys,” he told her. “I love you—so much it’s not funny.”

The couple went on two dates in New York City over the weekend before 2025, and they coordinated their outfits for both.

Okay, so I totally tracked them, and they spent the whole off-season together! Can you believe it? They even went to Montana – Montana! – for a snowy getaway, and they were with Erin Andrews, which is just… amazing. I’m seriously living for every detail!

In July 2025, Travis shared the first photos of him and Taylor together on Instagram. One cute picture, taken during dinner, also showed that they had set their phone lock screens to pictures of each other.

Taylor Swift, a self-proclaimed big fan of the *New Heights* podcast, appeared on an almost two-hour-long special episode with Travis and Jason Kelce on August 13th. During the conversation, she openly shared details about her life with Travis, both publicly and privately, and announced the title of her upcoming twelfth studio album, *The Life of a Showgirl*, which will be released on October 3rd.

Over two years after Travis mentioned Taylor on his podcast – a moment that quickly spread online – the couple announced their engagement.
