James Gunn Unveils DC’s 5 Next Movies & TV Shows

As a huge DC fan, I’m really excited about where James Gunn is taking things! He’s already laid out the next five projects for his new DC Universe, and it’s moving fast. We’ve already seen the first fruits of his labor – the animated series *Creature Commandos* hit HBO Max last December and is coming back for a second season. Then, *Superman* flew into theaters this past July and was a big hit, and *Peacemaker* Season 2 is wrapping up soon. It’s great to see things really getting going under Gunn and Safran’s leadership.

James Gunn recently discussed upcoming DC Universe projects in an interview with the *Crew Call* podcast. When asked what fans can expect after *Clayface*, the co-CEO of DC Studios mentioned a TV series he particularly loves, which will follow the already announced *Man of Tomorrow*.

Following the Clayface project, what’s the next DC Studios project likely to move forward? Are they prioritizing ‘Paradise Lost’ or ‘Booster Gold,’ and what’s currently in development that we can expect to see soon?

I’m working on two things right now. One is a TV project I really love, but I need to check with HBO to see how it’s progressing.

The interviewer wondered if the upcoming mystery show would be based on *Paradise Lost* or *Booster Gold*, but the head of DCU simply replied with a vague, “We’ll see.”

Q: “Booster Gold, Paradise Lost, okay… (laughs)”

I’m finishing up the script for ‘Man of Tomorrow,’ so that’s that. I’m moving on from the treatment now.

After the season finale of *Peacemaker* airs on October 9th, DC Studios has five projects in development, including this new, currently unnamed series on HBO Max.

The DCU’s Next 5 Movies & Shows After Peacemaker Season 2 (Confirmed)

Supergirl – June 26, 2026

Following the release of *Superman*, the DCU’s next film will be *Supergirl* in June 2026. This movie will be based on the *Woman of Tomorrow* comic book story written by Tom King.

Filming for *Supergirl* is finished, officially introducing Milly Alcock as the Girl of Steel after a brief appearance in *Superman*. She’ll be joined on her space adventure by Krypto the Superdog and a young character named Ruthye.

The upcoming movie, directed by Craig Gillespie (known for *Cruella*) and written by Ana Nogueira, will follow Kara Zor-El—also known as Supergirl—on a cosmic adventure. She’ll battle the villain Lobo, played by Jason Momoa, and Krem of the Yellow Hills, portrayed by Matthias Schoenaerts.

Lanterns – Early 2026

The next series in the DC Universe, *Lanterns*, isn’t expected to arrive on HBO until early 2026. It will feature Aaron Pierre as John Stewart, Kyle Chandler as Hal Jordan, and bring back Nathan Fillion as Guy Gardner, much to the excitement of fans.

So, I just read the official description for HBO’s *Green Lantern* series, and it sounds really interesting! Apparently, the heroes aren’t going to be off in space the whole time. It looks like they’re getting pulled into a gritty, down-to-earth mystery – a murder investigation right here in the American Midwest. It’s a cool change of pace, and I’m definitely intrigued to see how they handle that!

Filming for the first season of *Lanterns* took place between February and July 2025. Fans have already gotten a sneak peek at John Stewart as he appears in the DC Universe, and everyone is eagerly waiting for the trailer to drop.

Clayface – September 11, 2026

DC Studios is taking a significant chance with its first major project, a film about Clayface, scheduled for release on September 11, 2026. Originally not planned for the new DC Universe lineup, the movie is now happening because of a highly promising script written by Mike Flanagan, and will feature the shape-shifting Batman villain.

I’m really excited about the Clayface movie! It’s already filming in the U.K. with James Watkins directing. What’s cool is they’re making it a truly creepy body horror film on a relatively small budget of around $40 million, and Tom Rhys Harries is going to be playing the lead. It sounds like it’s going to be intense!

2026 will be the real proving ground for the DC Universe. The first projects – *Supergirl*, *Lanterns*, and *Clayface* – that James Gunn won’t directly write or direct are scheduled for release then. He’ll be focusing on his role as co-CEO of DC Studios, similar to how Kevin Feige runs Marvel Studios.

Untitled DC Television series – TBD

James Gunn recently shared details about six DC Universe projects in the works – including films like *The Brave and the Bold*, *Wonder Woman*, *Booster Gold*, and *Paradise Lost*. He also mentioned a secret TV series, emphasizing that it’s something “nobody knows about” yet.

It appears this project isn’t related to *Booster Gold* or *Paradise Lost*, and also won’t be the animated *Mister Miracle* or *Blue Beetle* series, which is rumored to be coming in 2026 before it’s officially announced.

While a sequel series for *Blue Beetle* hasn’t been officially confirmed by DC Studios – reports have only come from industry publications – it’s still possible that’s what James Gunn is talking about. There’s even speculation that Blue Beetle might appear briefly in the finale of *Peacemaker* Season 2.

Man of Tomorrow – July 9, 2027

DC Studios is moving forward quickly with *Man of Tomorrow*, aiming to start filming in April 2026 and release the movie in theaters on July 9, 2027. This will continue the storyline that began with *Superman*.

The director of the DC Universe has strongly hinted at who the villain will be in the next *Superman* movie, revealing it will likely feature a showdown between David Corenswet as Superman and Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor.

Despite rumors that James Gunn was quickly developing the project following the success of *Superman*, it appears *Man of Tomorrow* was always intended to be part of his DC Universe plan. Season 2 of *Peacemaker* will directly connect to the 2027 film.
