Simu Liu recently hinted at a major team-up in the upcoming Marvel movie, *Avengers: Doomsday*. Liu first appeared as Shang-Chi in the Marvel Cinematic Universe in the 2021 film *Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings*. While he’s also been featured in animated Marvel projects like *What If…?* and *Marvel Zombies*, Shang-Chi is set to return to live-action in the 2026 film, alongside some of Marvel’s biggest heroes.
Simu Liu may have accidentally revealed some big news about the future of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. While speaking at New York Comic-Con, he excitedly talked about looking up to actors Patrick Stewart and Ian McKellen, and hinted that he might have filmed scenes with them for the upcoming *Avengers: Doomsday*. Although he tried to take back his comments, Liu’s enthusiastic description of working with them suggests a potentially significant team-up between these acting legends in the MCU.
Okay, so I just heard some exciting news! Simu Liu, who played Shang-Chi, let slip that we’ll be seeing him share the screen with some *major* players in the upcoming ‘AVENGERS: DOOMSDAY’ – specifically, Professor X and Magneto! Talk about a team-up! CNET was the first to report, and honestly, this is getting me even more hyped for the movie.

Shang-Chi Teaming Up With the X-Men Is Incredibly Exciting
As a huge cinema fan, I always felt that Patrick Stewart and Ian McKellen were absolutely key to making the *X-Men* films work. Stewart *was* Professor X – his portrayal of Charles Xavier felt so dignified and powerful. And McKellen? He perfectly embodied Magneto, bringing such a compelling intensity to the role. They both lent a real sense of class and theatricality to the whole franchise, and I’m incredibly excited to see them return to those roles in *Avengers: Doomsday*! It’s fantastic that we’ll also be seeing familiar faces like Beast (Kelsey Grammer), Mystique (Rebecca Romijn), Cyclops (James Marsden), Gambit (Channing Tatum), and Nightcrawler (Alan Cumming) alongside them.
Simu Liu recently hinted at New York Comic Con that his character, Shang-Chi, will appear alongside the X-Men in the upcoming *Avengers: Doomsday* movie. There’s been talk that the film might adapt the popular 2012 *Avengers vs. X-Men* comic storyline, potentially creating conflict between Shang-Chi’s Avengers team and the X-Men. However, many believe Shang-Chi will actually team up with the X-Men to fight a larger enemy: Doctor Doom, as played by Robert Downey Jr.
Shang-Chi is a hugely powerful hero in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, known for his incredible fighting abilities and the mystical ten rings he wields – powerful bracelets with a mysterious past. The X-Men, particularly Professor X and Magneto, also possess some of the most impressive superpowers in Marvel history, and uniting these characters would create a truly spectacular and exciting movie. The next *Avengers* film, currently titled *Avengers: Doomsday*, is set to release on December 18, 2026, and it has the potential to dramatically reshape the future of the MCU.
