Control Dev Remedy Issues ‘Profit Warning’ Over Live Service Spin-Off FBC: Firebreak

Remedy Entertainment, the Finnish game developer, will release its next financial report later this month, but wanted to share some disappointing news right away.

The company behind the game Control has announced lower-than-expected profits, citing its overlooked multiplayer game, FBC: Firebreak, as a contributing factor.

Although the game was available as part of the PS Plus Extra subscription, it hasn’t become popular, with only a small number of players – usually less than one hundred – playing it at the same time on PC via Steam.

A spokesperson for the studio said:

Remedy’s financial report for the first half of 2025 showed that initial sales of FBC: Firebreak were lower than expected. However, the company quickly responded to player feedback after the game’s release and published several updates to improve it.

Remedy Entertainment launched the first major update, Breakpoint, for their game FBC: Firebreak on September 29th. This update made substantial changes to how the game plays. While player engagement and sales numbers have increased since the update, they haven’t yet met Remedy’s expectations.

Because of these issues, the company expects to lose €14.9 million (about $17.2 million), which is almost the entire cost of creating and releasing the game.

The company now anticipates a loss for its next financial report, with profits expected to be lower than last year.

This is especially disappointing for the company, as they had forecasted increased profits this quarter. They were clearly hoping their FBC: Firebreak product would be more successful.

It’s a reminder of how difficult the multiplayer space can be to crack.

Firebreak received mostly average reviews – it scored a 64 on Metacritic – and unfortunately, that isn’t enough to make it stand out when there are so many better games available right now.

Let’s hope this setback isn’t too damaging for Remedy, especially as they focus on their strengths with the upcoming releases of Control 2 and the Max Payne remakes.
