The beloved British comedy *The Inbetweeners* is returning, and after 15 years, fans will be thrilled to see it!
As a huge fan, I’m thrilled to hear the show is making a comeback! Banijay UK and Fudge Park Productions – the company started by the original creators, Iain Morris and Damon Beesley – have struck a new deal to bring it back. We don’t know a ton yet, but it sounds like there’s a new TV series in the works, and even a movie – maybe set in Vegas, which is awesome! Plus, I’ve heard whispers about a possible stage show, too. I can’t wait to see what they come up with!
Morris and Beesley expressed their excitement about planning future projects for The Inbetweeners. Patrick Holland, CEO of Banijay UK, shared their enthusiasm, saying he’s enjoyed collaborating with them on previous projects and was happy to discuss the show’s future.
Holland expressed excitement about the brand’s fresh and engaging creative direction, believing it will appeal to both existing and new fans. He added that he’s eager to start working on the project. The original *Inbetweeners* series aired on E4 from 2008 to 2010 and followed the lives of high school student Will McKenzie (played by Simon Bird) and his friends Simon Cooper (Joe Thomas), Neil Sutherland (Blake Harrison), and Jay Cartwright (James Buckley).
Instead of typical teen romance, *The Inbetweeners* was a funny and realistic coming-of-age story, which quickly became one of Britain’s favorite comedies. It received multiple BAFTA nominations and a British Comedy Award for its significant impact on British comedy. The series lasted three seasons and was later followed by two movies.
Both *The Inbetweeners Movie* (2011) and *The Inbetweeners 2* (2014) were huge hits in the UK, cementing the show’s place in British comedy. Fans have long hoped for another film, and those hopes gained traction in 2024 when Joe Thomas mentioned on the Always Be Comedy podcast that he and the other main actors would be willing to make a third movie.
An American Version of The Inbetweeners Was Released in 2012
You know, it’s really lovely – we’re all still close, me, James, Simon, and Blake. We genuinely like each other, which is rare after all these years! We’ve definitely talked about doing something together again, and I think we’d all be up for it. We’ve kicked around a few ideas, and honestly, we all feel like a reunion would be great.
Although the British comedy *The Inbetweeners* is still hugely popular, its American remake didn’t fare as well. Created by Brad Copeland and directed by Taika Waititi (known for his work with Marvel), the show featured actors Joey Pollari, Bubba Lewis, Mark L. Young, Zack Pearlman, and Alex Frnka. However, it was canceled after only a few months because it didn’t attract many viewers and received only moderate praise.
The Inbetweeners reunion project does not have a release date at this time.
