The Halo franchise is coming to PlayStation 5 with a completely updated version of its first game, Combat Evolved.
The information comes from Halo Leaks on X (formerly Twitter), a source that has correctly revealed details about the Halo franchise before.
Halo Studios, the team now leading development on the Halo franchise, will share news about its plans at the Halo World Championship later this month, giving fans a first look at their progress.
As a huge Halo fan, I’ve been hearing whispers about a remake of the original *Combat Evolved* for ages! Now that Microsoft is releasing games on PlayStation as well, it seems really likely we’ll finally get one on PS5 too, which is awesome!
So, I’ve been hearing through the Halo grapevine that Sony’s platform is supposedly where they’re planning to remake something, but it’s not clear if they’ll actually announce it at the event everyone’s talking about. Basically, it’s a rumor right now, and we’ll just have to wait and see!
The insider also claims the updated game will feature contemporary gameplay elements, like sprinting, which has proven controversial with dedicated Halo players.
Man, I remember when the original Halo dropped back in 2001 – it totally blew my mind and got everyone into FPS games on consoles. But seriously, so much has changed since then! Now, every shooter has sprinting, sliding, and you can even zoom in with ‘aim down sights’ – stuff we didn’t even dream of back then. It’s wild how much the genre has evolved!
According to leaks, the upcoming Halo game will be a complete remake, much like the recent Resident Evil remakes. This suggests a significant overhaul, potentially resulting in a game that feels entirely new compared to the original, similar to how Resident Evil 2 was rebuilt for modern consoles.
If the rumors are true, it will be interesting to see how longtime Halo fans react to these changes. It seems Halo Studios is trying to attract new players, but there’s a risk of turning off existing fans.
Halo: Combat Evolved was actually remastered years ago! The Anniversary Edition came out on Xbox 360 in 2011 for the game’s 10th anniversary, and it’s also included in the Master Chief Collection.
True remasters are already available, and it seems Halo Studios wants to significantly improve the experience with this new release.
Assuming it does release on PS5, it’ll be a watershed moment.
Microsoft has brought games like Forza Horizon 5 and Gears of War Reloaded to PlayStation, but Halo is truly the most iconic series for Xbox. It will be very interesting to see how long-time PlayStation fans respond when it eventually appears on their platform.
