After a strong start and debuting at number one in Japan last week, sales for Ghost of Yotei have decreased, but it remains in second place.
The PlayStation 5 exclusive sold 120,196 physical copies during its first week on sale, which began October 2nd. Since then, it has sold an additional 26,776 copies, bringing the total to 146,972 copies sold.
That’s a really good result for a game not made by Nintendo, or one that isn’t a consistently popular franchise like Dragon Quest or Monster Hunter.
When it comes to consistently popular games – like those on Nintendo systems – *Mario Kart World*, a new release for the Switch 2, actually outsold Sony’s newest game. It will be interesting to see if *Yotei* continues to be a top ten seller next week.
While Yotei hasn’t become as popular as Ghost of Tsushima, it’s important to look at the circumstances. Ghost of Tsushima was released during the pandemic, which helped boost its sales, while Yotei is launching in a market where most people buy games digitally.
We expect these results are generally in line with what was predicted. Although Sony hasn’t released official sales figures yet, the game Yotei has been very popular in Europe, and we anticipate hearing about its performance in the US soon.
