Netflix and the creators of *Stranger Things* are determined to give the show a fantastic ending with its upcoming fifth season. They know fans have high expectations, and they’re committed to providing satisfying answers to questions that have remained unanswered for nearly a decade – they won’t be delaying those resolutions any longer.
In a recent Variety interview, the creators of *Stranger Things*, Matt and Ross Duffer, discussed their plans for the final season. They emphasized the importance of resolving all previous storylines, including finally explaining the mystery of the Upside Down. Ross Duffer explained that they’d been putting off answering questions about it for years, always thinking, ‘Not yet.’ But with the final season, they knew it was time to provide answers.
Matt Duffer confirmed to fans that they were able to fully realize their creative ideas for the world of ‘Stranger Things,’ including the Upside Down, its monsters, and the town of Hawkins. He stated they accomplished everything they set out to do with characters like the Demogorgon, Mind Flayer, and Vecna, and that the story is now complete.
Stranger Things Isn’t Leaving Anything on the Table
Writing the final episode took several tries. To get it right, the writers analyzed other series finales, figuring out what made some successful and others fall flat. They found that the best finales, like those of *Six Feet Under*, *Friday Night Lights*, and *The Sopranos*, were consistently authentic. According to Ross, the key takeaway was that shows trying too hard to be clever often miss the mark.
I’m so impressed with how dedicated the Duffer Brothers are to giving *Stranger Things* the finale it deserves. Shawn Levy, one of the show’s executive producers, explained they’re really feeling the pressure to stick the landing – they’ve been disappointed by other shows they loved that didn’t deliver, and they’re determined not to let that happen with *Stranger Things*. They truly don’t want to let the fans down, and they’re doing everything possible to avoid that.
Ross Duffer wants the ending of *Stranger Things* to be satisfying for everyone, both those who’ve been watching since the beginning and anyone new to the show. He explained that they want all the storylines to come together neatly, so it feels complete and makes sense, rather than leaving loose ends.
The fifth season of *Stranger Things* will be released in two parts. The first four episodes of Volume 1 will be available November 26th, followed by the three episodes of Volume 2 on Christmas. The final episode will premiere on New Year’s Eve. Both volumes will become available at 5 PM Pacific Time.
