As a huge Marvel fan, it’s always struck me how easy some heroes have it when it comes to gear. Take Iron Man, for example. He basically designs and builds himself an entire arsenal of suits after getting back from Afghanistan – seriously, a suit for *every* situation! And he doesn’t stop there, he outfits the whole Avengers team with top-of-the-line equipment. But let’s be real, not everyone is on Tony Stark’s Christmas card list. A lot of heroes have to get creative and work with whatever they can find, and sometimes that means their look is… a little less polished.
Consider Daredevil. The first season of his Netflix series features him initially concerned with finding the right outfit for fighting crime in Hell’s Kitchen, eventually leading to a variety of costumes. Here’s a ranking of every live-action Daredevil costume, from least to most impressive.
9) The Trial of the Incredible Hulk
Daredevil first appeared in live-action in the 1989 TV movie, *The Trial of the Incredible Hulk*, where he assisted the Hulk while he was in New York. During a fight with Wilson Fisk’s thugs, Daredevil wore a basic black costume that didn’t look much like his comic book outfits. Considering it was a standalone movie, it’s understandable the costume wasn’t elaborate, but the simple black design keeps it at the bottom of this ranking.
8) Daredevil (2003)
Superhero movies from the 2000s often used a lot of leather, and Daredevil was no different. Ben Affleck’s costume is entirely red and quite revealing. While it’s not a bad look, and it does include the Daredevil logo, it definitely feels like a product of the early 2000s and doesn’t seem very functional.
7) Daredevil Season 1
It’s incredibly satisfying to see a hero finally get their classic costume from the comics. Daredevil receives his in the first season of his Netflix show, and it gives him a huge confidence boost while battling Wilson Fisk. However, he might not notice that the helmet makes his head appear a bit boxy, and the overwhelming black color scheme diminishes the impact of the red.
6) Daredevil Ninja Costume
It may be surprising that Daredevil’s costume ranks higher than The Incredible Hulk’s, but there’s a good reason. Daredevil starts his story as a novice, unaware of the dangers he’ll face. This makes his basic costume fitting – sometimes, simple works best! Even without his iconic horns, Matt Murdock is still intimidating to his foes.
5) Echo
Even though Daredevil is only in one scene in Echo, he debuts a new costume that feels more realistic for the show’s story. It fixes the helmet problems from Season 1 of Daredevil, and the black and red colors blend together better. The only downside is that we only get a brief, shadowy glimpse of it, making it hard to fully appreciate.
4) She-Hulk
Perhaps the most talked-about costume here is She-Hulk’s. When Daredevil makes his first appearance in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, he surprisingly wears a yellow and red suit instead of his usual all-red one. While it’s a big change, it works well because it matches the lighthearted tone of the story. It’s a pity we only see this costume once, as it’s really well-designed, with distinctive padding and a great helmet.
3) Daredevil: Born Again Season 2
Fans are eager to see how Daredevil will handle Kingpin’s control of New York City, but we’re now getting a first look at his new costume for the second season of *Daredevil: Born Again*. He’s sporting an all-black suit, but the most notable change is the addition of the Daredevil logo prominently displayed on the chest. This new look finally brings the character closer to his comic book origins and makes it a standout design within the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
2) Daredevil Season 2
Although this costume looks similar to the one seen in *Echo*, it has a few small differences. What makes it stand out is its significant presence in *Daredevil* Seasons 2 and 3, and *The Defenders*. The extensive screen time really highlights the upgraded cowl and color design. For many fans, this is the iconic Daredevil suit from his Netflix series.
1) Daredevil: Born Again Season 1
The first season of *Born Again* really delivers when it comes to Daredevil’s costume. Knowing the show needs a durable suit for the entire season, the designers went all-out, creating a mostly red outfit with a distinctive checkered design. The cowl is also the best it’s ever looked, fitting Matt Murdock’s head perfectly and letting his iconic horns stand out. Though the costume might be retired after Season 1, it’s likely the peak of Daredevil’s on-screen look.
