Dead Space Creator Optimistic in Reviving Franchise After EA’s Buyout

Glenn Schofield, a key figure in the creation of the *Dead Space* series, would still like to see another game in the franchise. He recently told IGN that he discussed a fourth *Dead Space* installment with EA, but they weren’t interested then. However, with EA becoming a private company, he believes a revival is still possible.

Schofield recently approached EA with a proposal, but they turned him down. He offered to bring back the original leadership team and utilize the models created by EA Motive – the team behind the 2023 *Dead Space* remake – which he believed could save them $30 to $40 million. However, EA still wasn’t interested.

Schofield mentioned that he has many game ideas, including a potential *Dead Space 4*. Combined with the current ownership at EA, this gives him optimism that the *Dead Space* series could return in the future.

“I have quite a few ideas that I’m ready to go with and one of them is Dead Space 4,” he said. “The fact that EA just got bought, I think there’s an opportunity. I’m already making calls.”

Whether EA would consider a new game in the horror series remains to be seen, according to Schofield. He suggests the 2023 *Dead Space* remake may not have been as financially successful as EA had hoped, which could impact future decisions.

Schofield stated he’s unsure what EA is thinking currently, and doesn’t believe the *Dead Space* remake was profitable. He feels the *Dead Space* franchise has potential beyond games – like movies or TV shows – and is hopeful that with EA’s recent sale, a new owner might invest in the *Dead Space* IP.

Schofield has previously expressed interest in working on a variety of game projects. For example, in September he mentioned he’d be willing to develop a game based on the *Alien* series, but only if he had complete creative freedom. He emphasized the importance of this, stating, “I need to be fully in charge creatively—that’s non-negotiable.” He believes this level of ownership is crucial for him to deliver a truly excellent game, promising to give it his all if he’s deeply involved.

Electronic Arts (EA) recently agreed to be acquired by a group of investors led by the Public Investment Fund of Saudi Arabia (PIF), along with Silver Lake and Affinity Partners. The purchase price is approximately $55 billion, and the deal will take EA private. Current shareholders will receive $210 per share in cash. EA’s board of directors has already approved the acquisition, which is anticipated to be finalized in the first quarter of their 2027 fiscal year.
