The season finale of *Peacemaker* threw a major wrench into the plans for DC Universe’s first superhero team. With the rebooted DCU launching in 2024, we’ve met several groups like the Justice Gang and the heroes of Checkmate, plus a family of Kryptonians. While the original team is set to return, their next story might be complicated by a surprising turn: Rick Flag Sr. has become a villain.
Frank Grillo played Rick Flag Sr., a key member of the initial DC Universe team, Task Force M, in the animated series *Creature Commandos*. It initially seemed like he was comfortable working with metahumans. However, the second season of *Peacemaker* suggests otherwise. When Task Force M returns for another season of *Creature Commandos*, Rick Flag’s potential descent into villainy could create major trouble for the team, possibly making them the focus of his plans to build an intergalactic prison.
Why Rick Flag Sr. Might Be After the Creature Commandos in Season 2

At the end of the first season of *Creature Commandos*, Rick Flag Sr. had built a solid working relationship with Task Force M and introduced its newest member, the Bride, to the team. This hinted at his continued involvement in their future missions. However, his character development in season two of *Peacemaker* makes that less likely. Throughout *Peacemaker*, Flag’s obsession with stopping Christopher Smith escalated, leading him to make a deal with Lex Luthor, a villain from the *Superman* stories. Together, they obtained the Quantum Unfolding Chamber, which revealed the existence of an alternate dimension called Salvation.
So, the finale of *Peacemaker* season 2 dropped a huge bomb! Apparently, Flag and ARGUS weren’t trying to *help* metahumans with Salvation, they were building a prison for them – a place to lock them up so they couldn’t cause trouble on Earth. It’s messed up, but Peacemaker, even though he doesn’t have powers himself, is the first one they stuck in there. And it sounds like Flag plans to fill it with *lots* of powered people, heroes and villains alike, as the DCU moves forward. What’s really got me worried, though, is that Flag doesn’t seem like the type to make exceptions, even for friends. That means the Task Force M crew we’re going to meet in *Creature Commandos* season 2 could very easily end up as prisoners on Salvation. Talk about a cliffhanger!
The next season of the DCU’s animated show might focus on Rick Flag Sr. going after the Creature Commandos. He could try to capture them and send them to a place called Salvation, where they might team up with Christopher Smith. While Flag would make a great villain for season two of *Creature Commandos*, it could also put the team in serious danger.
