SAIPAN tells the dramatic story of Roy Keane, a famous football player, and his manager, Mick McCarthy, focusing on the lead-up to Ireland’s controversial 2002 World Cup. Their intense personal conflict captivated the nation and the sports world. While seemingly about maintaining high standards, the dispute was fundamentally an emotional clash between two men whose rivalry and dislike for each other ultimately overshadowed their passion for football. This is the complete and final story of one of the most bitter and public disagreements ever seen in sports.
The new film, *SAIPAN*, is directed by Lisa Barros D’Sa and Glenn Leyburn, the team behind *Good Vibrations* and *Ordinary Love*. It’s written by Paul Fraser, known for his work on *Heartlands* and *A Room for Romeo Brass*. Éanna Hardwicke (nominated for a BAFTA for *Lakelands* and *The Sixth Commandment*) stars as Roy Keane, and Steve Coogan (a two-time Academy Award® nominee for *Philomena* and *The Reckoning*) plays Mick McCarthy. The supporting cast includes Alice Lowe (*Sightseers*), Jamie Beamish (*Derry Girls*), Alex Murphy (*The Young Offenders*), Harriet Cains (*Bridgerton*), and Peter McDonald (*The Batman*).
