Shirley Ballas “emotional” as Strictly star dances a “perfect” rumba

Shirely Ballas, a judge on Strictly Come Dancing, became emotional while watching Alex Kington’s rumba on Saturday night’s episode (October 18th).

The Doctor Who actress and her dance partner, Johannes Radebe, performed a beautiful rumba to Tracy Chapman’s song, Fast Car.

Honestly, the dance was a huge hit with the Strictly judges! I was really touched when Shirley Ballas actually stood up and gave Layton Kingston a hug – you could tell she was genuinely moved by the performance.

She admitted she was getting tearful, explaining that throughout her time on Strictly Come Dancing, she’d never witnessed such incredible footwork. She was particularly impressed by how precise and controlled every step and turn was.

It was a truly flawless performance for me. The dance sequence was breathtaking, and the connection between the performers was wonderfully expressed.

Anton Du Beke then shook Alex’s hand, and Craig offered his feedback, saying he wished Alex had emphasized his movements a bit more. He praised Alex’s legs, balance, and physique, adding that he was truly developing into a skilled dancer.

Motsi Mabuse was incredibly impressed, commenting that the performance was exceptional and highlighted the beautiful connection and synchronized movement between the dancers. She was particularly struck by their breathing and partnership.

Alex and Johannes earned a score of 36 out of 40, and judge Ballas gave her first perfect 10 of the season. (As she said, it’s always a good time for a top score!)

Before hearing the judges’ scores, Alex explained that her dance with Johannes was special because of their strong connection. She said it was about embracing that connection and not feeling self-conscious about it.

Towards the end of the show, Shirley admitted she was feeling overwhelmed with emotion. The broadcast concluded with a lively performance of “Golden” by Ellie Goldstein and Vito Coppola, known as K-Pop Demon Hunters.

Strictly Come Dancing is available to watch on catch-up on BBC iPlayer.
