Christina Applegate is sharing an unfiltered look at her private life.
The actress, known for her role in *Dead to Me*, recently created a new social media account to connect with her followers and friends, and she said it still feels a little strange to her.
She recently posted on Instagram, saying she never would have believed she’d be on the platform a year ago. However, now that she is, she plans to use it to share her authentic self – being real, unfiltered, and honest.
Along with her message, the 53-year-old, who was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis in 2021, posted a recent favorite photo of herself. It’s a black-and-white shot of her wearing a simple white T-shirt and jeans, looking directly at the camera.
The photo was taken by my close friend, Kevin Grackle, in my backyard. It features chimes that remind me of my mother, and I’m wearing a moon necklace given to me by a special friend. -C
The actress, who shares 14-year-old daughter Sadie Grace LeNoble with her husband Martyn LeNoble, was greeted with supportive comments from friends like Minka Kelly, who wrote, “Happy to see you here.”
Kaitlyn Bristowe excitedly agreed, saying “Hell yes!” and Christina’s podcast co-host, Jamie Lynn Sigler, shared her enthusiasm with a simple, “Look at this!”
Soon after, the Emmy-winning actress posted a touching video thanking people for the support she’d received from her new fans.
Christina hinted at her memoir, which will be released in March, saying it will honestly share both the good and bad parts of her life.
She finished by saying she was thrilled to finally share her life story, *You With the Sad Eyes*, with everyone – including all the highs, lows, and everything in between. She ended with a simple, ‘Peace and blessings.’

Christina Applegate shared she was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis in 2021.
I wanted to share that I was diagnosed with MS a few months ago,” she posted on social media last August. “It’s been a really unusual experience, but I’ve felt so much support from others who understand what it’s like to live with MS. It hasn’t been easy, but life goes on – unless someone tries to get in the way!
During her Hollywood Walk of Fame ceremony in November 2022—her first public event since being diagnosed with multiple sclerosis—she playfully announced, ‘Oh, and by the way, I have a disease.’ She then gestured to her bare feet, adding, ‘Did you not notice?’
Christina believes her MS journey actually began “six or seven years” before her 2021 diagnosis.
Christina Applegate revealed that during the first season of *Dead to Me*, she experienced leg weakness while filming. In a March 2024 interview on *Good Morning America*, she explained she initially dismissed it as fatigue, dehydration, or the weather, and didn’t seek medical attention because the symptoms would disappear for months at a time.
The actress revealed that by the time they were filming the last season of the Netflix series, she needed a wheelchair to get around on set.
“I couldn’t move that far,” she recalled, “so I had to tell everybody because I needed help.”
As a huge fan of Christina Applegate, it really touched me to see her recent post. She shared a photo of her walking canes, and her caption, ‘Walking sticks are now part of my new normal,’ just felt so honest and brave. It’s inspiring to see her embracing this new chapter with such strength while navigating her MS journey.
At the 2023 SAG Awards, Christina delivered a defiant message to multiple sclerosis, simply stating “F U MS,” accompanied by her daughter Sadie Grace LeNoble.
After getting a standing ovation at the 2023 Emmys, the former star of *Married…With Children* joked, “You’re making me feel bad about my disability by all standing up!”
Christina explained on the March 2024 episode of Armchair Expert that making jokes is how she copes with her health condition. She said that if she didn’t use humor, she wouldn’t be able to handle things and it would overwhelm her.
I recently shared on a podcast that I’m dealing with 30 lesions in my brain. The largest one is located right behind my right eye, which is causing me a significant amount of pain. It’s definitely been a challenge, but I’m focusing on staying positive and managing the discomfort.
According to the Multiple Sclerosis Trust, multiple sclerosis happens when the body’s immune system mistakenly attacks the protective covering of nerve cells.
Christina hasn’t held back when it comes to sharing her journey.
Christina Applegate was honest with Jimmy Kimmel about how difficult living with multiple sclerosis is. She admitted it’s a real struggle, saying, ‘I don’t think anyone with MS would say this is a good thing to happen.’
In a March 2024 interview with *Good Morning America*, Christina described living with the disease as being “like living in hell.”
She hopes to feel more capable in the future. Currently, she’s coping by staying home and avoiding activities, simply because she doesn’t have the energy to face them. She admits it’s a difficult situation.
Christina Applegate says her *Sweetest Thing* co-star, Selma Blair, who received an MS diagnosis in 2018, encouraged her to get tested for the condition.
I’ll never forget when Christina shared her story on *GMA*. She told me that a friend insisted she get tested for Multiple Sclerosis, and honestly, she said it could have been so much more serious if that friend hadn’t pushed her to get checked. It really struck me how important it is to look out for each other and encourage people to prioritize their health.
Christina Applegate has indicated that her role in *Dead to Me* will probably be the last time she appears on screen. In an interview with *Vanity Fair* in May 2023, she stated she couldn’t picture herself working on a film or television set at this time.
I likely won’t be doing on-camera work anymore, but I’m incredibly happy I had the chance to work with Linda Cardellini, who is not only the most talented actress I’ve ever collaborated with, but also one of the most amazing people I’ve ever met.
