The Best Lord of the Rings Games Are $5 for Limited Time

You can get great deals on *Lord of the Rings* games right now! Steam, the PlayStation Store, and the Xbox Store all have discounts available. However, these offers are only for PC, PlayStation 4 & 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series S/X players, and they end on October 23rd – so you have about 72 hours to save!

The *Lord of the Rings* games on sale are *Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor* (from 2014) and its sequel, *Middle-earth: Shadow of War* (2017). The Game of the Year edition of *Shadow of Mordor* costs $3.99 on Steam and $4.99 on the PlayStation Store. *Shadow of War* has a few options: the standard edition is $4.99 on Steam only, while the Definitive Edition is $5.99 on both Steam and PlayStation Store. If you don’t own either game, you can buy both in a bundle for $6.99 on Steam and the Xbox Store.

Middle-earth: Shadow of War

Middle-earth: Shadow of War is an action-adventure game developed by Monolith Productions, the team behind the 2014 game Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor. For devoted fans of The Lord of the Rings, the game is set between the storylines of Peter Jackson’s The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings movies.

In the game, you once again play as Talion, and this time he faces the full might of Sauron. Like the first game, the standout feature of *Shadow of War* is the Nemesis System. This system makes each enemy feel unique as they develop and change based on what happens in the game and your interactions with them.

When Middle-earth: Shadow of War first came out, I was really happy to see it got a solid 81 on Metacritic! It was also awesome that it was nominated for Best RPG at the D.I.C.E. Awards – definitely deserved recognition for how good it was.

Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor

Since *Shadow of War* and *Shadow of Mordor* are very alike, many of the same points apply to both. However, *Shadow of Mordor* felt more original when it first came out, largely because it was the first game in the series. Released in 2014, it was a strong contender for Game of the Year, even though it received an 84 on Metacritic. Many fans still consider it the best *Lord of the Rings* video game ever made.
