Before its release, Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth from Square Enix was already known for its massive scope, making it one of the largest single-player RPGs to come out in a long time. Although the developers stated they didn’t plan to release any downloadable content after launch, it appears they did have some ideas and a potential plan for it.
During last month’s Tokyo Game Show, WCCF Tech spoke with director Naoki Hamaguchi (through an interpreter) who shared that the team had considered a “Rebirth” DLC at one point. However, after re-evaluating their priorities and considering what fans wanted most, they decided against it.
We realized fans were most eager to get the third game out quickly. So, we decided to focus on finishing that before working on the Rebirth DLC.
There’s a possibility we’ll see downloadable content for Final Fantasy 7 Remake Part 3. With the Final Fantasy 7 Remake trilogy now finished, more people are likely to become fans of the Final Fantasy series overall. The developers are currently thinking about whether to create new DLC or a completely new game, but they haven’t made any firm decisions yet, so don’t get your hopes up too high.
It’s still uncertain how fans, especially those who’ve been following the Remake series for a long time, will react to the ending. While the director, Hamaguchi, hopes everyone will enjoy it, he doesn’t always agree with criticisms – for example, he thought Rebirth wasn’t overly long, despite some disagreement. He has assured worried fans that the third installment will be more streamlined.
We don’t yet know when Final Fantasy 7 Remake Part 3 will be released, or what its official title will be. However, according to creative director Tetsuya Nomura, Square Enix has a planned announcement date internally. When it does launch, it will be available on Xbox Series X/S, PlayStation 5, PC, and the new Nintendo Switch 2 – marking the first time a game in the trilogy will be released on all these platforms simultaneously.
