The Sinking City 2 Delayed to First Half of 2026, New Screenshots Revealed

Frogwares has announced that The Sinking City 2, originally planned to come out this year, will now be released in the first six months of 2026. The developers want to ensure the game is fully completed to their standards and are taking the extra time to do so.

The war in Ukraine has understandably caused delays – power outages from drone and missile strikes were a major issue. Adding to this, the team decided to change the game’s genre to survival horror, which presented its own unique challenges. As lead game designer Alexander Gresko put it, creating a survival horror game was a completely new experience for them.

We’ve been creating adventure games for over twenty years, but making a survival horror game requires a completely different approach. Things like building tension, controlling the pace, and designing combat are all very different. We’re huge fans of the genre, but actually developing a survival horror game has shown us how much more there is to learn. It’s a thrilling challenge, but it’s also making the development process take longer.

Despite the continued delay, Frogwares is hesitant to set a definitive release date. According to publishing head Sergi Oganesyan, the studio prefers to ensure a stable launch rather than announce a date and then have to postpone it. They are currently targeting a release within the first six months of 2026, meaning it’s likely to happen within the next few months, not years.

Good news! We’ll be showing off much more gameplay footage in the months ahead, according to Anna Bieniek, the senior social media manager. You can find 13 new screenshots below to get a sneak peek.

Currently finishing development, The Sinking City 2 will be released on Xbox Series X/S, PlayStation 5, and PC. Built with Unreal Engine 5, the game takes place in a flooded 1920s Arkham and draws inspiration from the stories of H.P. Lovecraft and the Cthulhu mythos.
