Elizabeth Olsen has given fans hope that Wanda Maximoff might return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU).
The character quickly became a fan favorite, starting with her introduction in the 2015 film Avengers: Age of Ultron and culminating in her leading role in the popular Disney Plus series WandaVision during the pandemic.
Her last live-action role in the 2022 film Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness sparked disagreement among fans. Many felt the movie portrayed her as a shallow, one-dimensional villain and appeared to kill off her character.
After destroying the Darkhold Castle on Mount Wundagore while desperately trying to find her children, Wanda’s fate is uncertain – even Elizabeth Olsen, who plays her, doesn’t know if the character could have survived.
However, she also said she’d happily repeat the experience if she could (according to InStyle).
I’ve revisited this character many times over the past decade,” she said. “It’s satisfying to finish working on her, but then I find myself missing her and wanting to explore her story again.
As a fan myself, I was really relieved to hear this. There was a point, after the back-to-back filming of those huge projects – Infinity War, Endgame, WandaVision, and Multiverse of Madness – where it felt like Elizabeth Olsen might be done with the Wanda Maximoff character. It’s great to know that door isn’t closed for good.
In a previous interview with Vanity Fair, Olsen explained that making Multiverse of Madness was difficult because the script didn’t fully connect with or expand on the story from WandaVision.
Elizabeth Olsen explained that the writers hadn’t yet seen WandaVision when she asked them about it. This is why their understanding of the show differed from what ultimately appeared on screen, creating a disconnect between what they imagined and the final product.
Despite any challenges, Olsen enjoyed working on the lighthearted and often silly Marvel movie sets. She also valued the strong sense of teamwork and the reliable income those films provided.

The actor recently shared that she prefers movies made for the big screen and will only work on large-scale films designed for theaters. She noted that Marvel Studios played a significant role in keeping the theatrical movie business thriving during its most successful period.
You know, as a film lover, I really believe in the power of shared experiences, and that extends beyond the cinema. I think it’s so important for people to simply be together, to connect with others in a real space. That’s why I get why people love sports – it’s amazing when a community comes together, united by something they’re passionate about. It’s a really powerful feeling.
Olsen clarified that her decision to avoid big-budget movies made directly for streaming doesn’t apply to independent films like her moving drama, His Three Daughters, which were made separately and then sold to streaming services.
Fans of the Scarlet Witch recently got to see Elizabeth Olsen reprise the role in the Disney+ animated series Marvel Zombies. She voiced the character, but interestingly, she recorded her lines several years ago.

She explained to the audience at LA Comic-Con (according to Variety) that she recorded the audio at her home, not in a professional studio. She believes it was likely in 2020 or 2021, but she doesn’t remember why she wasn’t working in a studio at the time and apologized for the unusual circumstances.
This four-episode series presents a ‘what if?’ scenario where Marvel’s famous heroes face a zombie outbreak. It follows a small group of survivors as they struggle to find a way to undo the disaster and save their world.
Many fans are surprised that Elizabeth Olsen, a popular actress in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, hasn’t been announced as part of the cast for the next Avengers movies, Doomsday and Secret Wars. There’s been a lot of excitement among viewers hoping to see her character interact with Doctor Doom, just as Robert Downey Jr. did.
We’ll just have to wait and see if these recent positive statements suggest Wanda Maximoff will return.
