Apple TV has been releasing mysterious previews for the upcoming show Pluribus (also known as Plur1bus) for several months, building anticipation for its 2025 release. I’ve watched several of these short clips and read a lot of fan speculation about the series, which stars Rhea Seehorn from Better Call Saul. However, after watching the full trailer, I’m still just as puzzled about what the show is actually about.
After watching the trailer, I was puzzled and immediately began researching Pluribus and the intentions of the creator of Breaking Bad. Here’s a summary of what I discovered…
What We Know From The Trailer And Description
The new Apple TV+ series, Pluribus, centers around Carol Sturka (Rhea Seehorn), who is described as the most unhappy person on Earth. Surprisingly, she’s tasked with preventing the world from becoming too happy. The show’s trailer is full of action, drama, and dark humor, offering a glimpse into the story without revealing too much. You can watch it below.
Everyone around Carol seems happy, or at least okay, but she feels constantly angry, confused, and disconnected – as if the world exists only to frustrate her. When discussing the episode Pluribus with Entertainment Weekly, Vince Gilligan shared a few more details about the plot beyond the basic summary, but kept most of the story under wraps.
The show centers around a deeply unhappy character who surprisingly finds herself trying to protect the world from becoming too happy. This creates a lot of compelling conflict, as she doesn’t want the responsibility, but feels obligated to take it on.
The show raises a lot of unanswered questions, but here’s what we know: Carol is the only one who isn’t caught up in a wave of overwhelming happiness, and she’s responsible for saving the world. She also has the power to get anything she desires – except for explanations about what’s happening.

The Scenario Vince Gilligan Set Out To Explore
Vince Gilligan first had the idea for Pluribus several years ago while working on Better Call Saul. As he shared in an interview with EW, the initial spark came to him while simply walking through a neighborhood.
During lunch breaks, I often went for walks around the office building. As I walked, I started imagining a world filled with incredibly kind people. In this world, you couldn’t possibly offend anyone or hurt their feelings, and they would go to any lengths to help you.
This feels like a plot from a classic Twilight Zone episode – a world where everyone is kind and nothing causes offense. It’ll be fascinating to see how things develop.

Is This Going To Be A Lost Situation, But With A Breaking Bad And Better Call Saul Attitude?
After watching the teasers and the full trailer, I suspect the new Apple TV series, Pluribus, will be similar to Lost – full of mysteries – but with the gritty, complex tone of Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul. While it’s possible the show is exactly what it appears to be, I believe the story will be much more layered and reveal its secrets gradually.
Add a compelling mystery to Vince Gilligan’s talent for crafting stories and complex characters, and set it all against the backdrop of the New Mexico desert – that’s a recipe for something really promising.

Apple TV+ costs $12.99 per month and offers a 7-day free trial. While you wait for the premiere of Pluribus, consider signing up to enjoy other popular shows like Severance, Slow Horses, and Shrinking.

To be honest, I’m not sure how many questions will be resolved when Pluribus becomes available to Apple TV subscribers on November 7th. But I plan to be watching!
