I’ve just witnessed the debut of the anime adaptation of “Gachiakuta” on Crunchyroll, and it seems fans are eagerly plunging into Rudo’s thrilling odyssey through the Abyss. This shonen series has been one of the most eagerly awaited new anime releases of 2025, largely due to the meteoric success of Kei Urana’s fresh manga. With Episode 1 now unveiled, viewers are pondering how long this tale will unfold. For those disheartened by typical 12-episode anime seasons, there’s no need for concern, as “Gachiakuta” just received the most reassuring update imaginable.
In 2022, Urana’s manga debuted in Kodansha’s “Weekly Shonen Magazine.” Since then, it has been making waves in the shonen genre. Studio BONES is animating a new adaptation, which is set to premiere as part of the Summer 2025 line-up. The upcoming anime season features a variety of OVAs, limited series, and single-cour seasons. However, “Gachiakuta” stands out among them, boasting a potentially lengthy release schedule compared to other Summer 2025 anime offerings.
Gachiakuta Will Be On the Air for a While With Its Confirmed Episode Count
After the first episode, the official account of Gachiakuta (previously known as Twitter) announced that Season 1 will consist of two consecutive blocks of episodes without a mid-season break. In simpler terms, this means there won’t be a 12-episode season or any breaks in between. The exact number of episodes hasn’t been disclosed yet, but fans anticipate it to total 24 episodes.
The anime titled Gachiakuta made its premiere on Crunchyroll on July 6th. This announcement indicates that the series will air during both the Summer and Fall seasons. To cater to the preferences of fans, Gachiakuta is set for two consecutive broadcast periods. Furthermore, a simul-dubbed version has been made available, which is ideal for those who prefer the English dub over subtitles. Currently, both versions can be streamed on Crunchyroll.

Previously stated, “Gachiakuta” was anticipated to be a major hit during the Summer 2025 anime season. Following its initial episode, we’re thrilled to confirm that it has indeed met expectations. The premiere earned an impressive 8.9 rating on IMDb and a slightly lower but still commendable 8.13 score on My Anime List. Keep in mind that these ratings may fluctuate (either up or down) as the series progresses.
Prior to its debut over the weekend, certain fortunate spectators and press were given the opportunity to watch the first two episodes at Anime Expo in Los Angeles ahead of time. ComicBook was among those present, with Anime Editor J.R. Waugh penning a review of these initial episodes. The review opened with this statement: “The premiere of Gachiakuta sets the stage for Rudo’s rapid transformation into a blind, enraged fury in an attention-grabbing, powerful intro that is sure to captivate viewers.” For longtime fans, it provides reassurance that their cherished series maintains its potent, vengeful spirit to distinguish itself from the conventional shonen genre.
In the rundown districts of a town suspended in the sky, the less fortunate struggle in the presence of the wealthy who live lavishly, carelessly discarding their waste into the void below. One day, Rudo is unfairly charged with murder, and his unjust conviction results in a severe penalty – exile beyond the edge, among the refuse. Beneath this discarded waste of society, monstrous creatures have emerged, and if Rudo hopes to reveal the truth behind his predicament and seek retribution against those who sent him to Hell, he must learn a new power and ally with a group called the Cleaners, who fight the colossal beasts of the abyss.
New episodes of Gachiakuta release weekly on Sundays.
