80 Years On, DC Just Rewrote Lois Lane Again (& Revealed Her Perfect Form)

The Superman comic has been consistently excellent lately, and issue #31 continues that trend. This issue ties into the DC K.O. storyline, building on themes from DC K.O. #1 and events from the past year of Superman stories. A standout element of the Superman series recently has been the character of Lois Lane. Always an important part of Superman’s world, Lois has evolved into an even more significant role, and this issue features a particularly strong portrayal of her.

Wow, Superman #31 was incredible! What really grabbed me was seeing Lois Lane shine. DC has been building her up for years, and this issue finally shows us the Lois we’ve always deserved – a true Superwoman. It’s amazing to see her with Superman’s powers, and honestly, the last year of Superman comics has made me realize she’s always had that potential. It’s just fantastic!

Lois Lane Has Always Been Superheroic, the Powers Prove It

From the very beginning, Lois Lane has always been a hero, even without superpowers. She relied on her smarts and skills as a journalist to fight for people and expose wrongdoing. Often, her reporting was more impactful than even Superman’s actions, consistently getting the story first and helping more people. While writers sometimes gave her Superman’s powers, it only highlighted what was already true: Lois had the potential to be a superhero all along, and her intelligence was her greatest strength.

The 2024 storyline, Absolute Power, significantly altered the power dynamics within the DC Universe by redistributing abilities between characters. Notably, Lois Lane gained Kryptonian superpowers, taking them from General Zod, and adopted the identity of Superwoman. While she’s been known by that name before – most recently in the Superwoman series during DC Rebirth, and for many years as a character from Earth-3 – it was exciting to see her utilize these powers to battle Doomsday and protect the citizens of Metropolis, mirroring Superman’s heroic acts. Although Lois initially lost these powers, they were restored in Superman #31.

When Lois Lane reappeared after the Crisis event in DC Rebirth #1, the Superman comics began to portray her in a new way. She wasn’t just the star reporter at The Daily Planet anymore; she actively joined Superman and their son, Jon Kent, on their adventures. She battled villains like the Eradicator, Mr. Mxyzptlk, and Manchester Black, and even traveled through space with Jor-El and Jon before coming back to Earth. DC Comics made a point of highlighting Lois, and it seemed like the natural progression of her character. However, that wasn’t the full story.

Turning Lois Lane into Superwoman felt like a natural step, building on her history as a supportive hero. Lois has always been dedicated to helping people, and when she gained Superman’s powers, she continued that work. Many Superman fans, including me, have enjoyed seeing a more proactive Lois since 2016, and we appreciated the idea of her as a full-fledged superhero. So, it was great to see her powers restored in Superman #31, because it confirms what longtime Lois Lane fans already knew: she’s always been a hero at heart.

Superwoman Is What Lois Lane Always Deserved to Be

As a huge cinema and comics fan, I’ve always thought Superman has the strongest supporting characters around, and Lois Lane is definitely the best of the bunch. Right from the start, she’s been incredibly brave, constantly risking everything to help the people of Metropolis. She’s always been a hero, even without any powers, and DC has really developed that idea over the years. Seeing Lois become Superwoman just feels like a natural and perfect progression of who she is at her core.

The idea of Lois Lane having superpowers was never meant to be permanent, and fans sensed that even when it first appeared in 2024. But this brief change ultimately reinforced what Lois Lane fans have always known: she’s one of the most heroic and inspiring characters in comic book history.
