As a big fan of Silent Hills, I was so surprised to hear that the old ‘P.T.’ demo is now being used in Japanese schools! Apparently, teachers are using it to help students learn English – which is a really creative way to bring a classic horror experience into the classroom. It’s wild to think that something so creepy is now an educational tool!
Tsunan Secondary School in Niigata Prefecture, north of Tokyo, recently shared how one of its fifth-grade classes used a video game to practice English. According to the school’s post, students advanced through the story by making choices in English. The post included photos of the class playing a demo on a PlayStation 4.

Even though the game is known for being incredibly frightening, students reportedly had fun practicing their English while playing it. The unexpected sound of a ringing phone during the demo startled some, proving the game’s scary elements still worked well in a classroom setting.
It seems the teacher brought a PlayStation 4 to school with the P.T. demo still installed. This is remarkable because the demo was removed from the PlayStation Store over a decade ago and can’t be played on newer consoles. That’s real dedication! We might have even learned languages better in school if lessons were taught using P.T.
