Star Wars fans are buzzing about the possibility of Adam Driver reprising his role as Ben Solo in a future film. This excitement comes after Driver revealed a pitch he made with director Steven Soderbergh for a spin-off movie called The Hunt for Ben Solo. While Lucasfilm liked the idea, Disney ultimately decided not to move forward with it. Despite this setback, fans are holding out hope that Driver might return to the Star Wars universe in some capacity. However, current information suggests a Ben Solo comeback isn’t likely.
Jeff Sneider, in a recent newsletter also covering David Fincher’s unfulfilled Star Wars ambitions, investigated whether Adam Driver’s recent statements were a way to signal his interest in rejoining the franchise. He reported that sources confirmed there are currently no plans for Driver’s return, particularly with Kathleen Kennedy anticipated to leave her position as president of Lucasfilm next year.
Lucasfilm Changes Could Prevent Adam Driver’s Star Wars Return

Although there’s been speculation, Kathleen Kennedy hasn’t announced any plans to leave her role as president of Lucasfilm. Earlier rumors about her retirement were quickly denied, and she intends to continue producing films, including The Mandalorian & Grogu and Star Wars: Starfighter. She has discussed potential future leadership with Disney’s Bob Iger and Alan Bergman, and they are working together to find possible replacements, but there’s no timeline for when a new president will be appointed.
With Kathleen Kennedy potentially stepping down soon—production on the next Starfighter film is still two years away—we might see shifts in Lucasfilm’s plans for future Star Wars movies. While Kennedy will help choose her replacement, the new president could have a different vision for the franchise, similar to how George Lucas’ ideas for the sequel trilogy differed from what was ultimately made. This could mean a focus on fresh characters and storylines set outside the Skywalker family saga, exploring new eras within the Star Wars universe.
I’m really excited about the possibility of James Mangold’s Dawn of the Jedi story, but honestly, I’d be a little disappointed if Adam Driver never returned to Star Wars. He’s such a talented actor, and I thought Kylo Ren was a truly compelling character. If he’s willing to come back, Lucasfilm should absolutely find a way to make it happen. The sequel trilogy only covered a short time in Kylo’s life, so there’s still so much story to tell. Even if a Force Awakens prequel isn’t possible, I think Driver deserves a real chance to play Ben Solo after Rise of Skywalker. We only saw a glimpse of Ben’s redemption, and I’d love to see him explore that side of the character more fully.
As a fan, I really hope we see Ben Solo return as a Force ghost in the upcoming Star Wars: New Jedi Order story, especially considering his connection with Rey and how she’s trying to rebuild the Jedi Order. Unfortunately, it doesn’t sound like that’s currently planned. The project has been a bit rocky, with a lot of changes in who’s writing it as Lucasfilm tries to get the story right. But honestly, with development still ongoing, I’m holding out hope that someone will find a way to bring Kylo Ren back into the mix. It would feel so right!
