As a huge movie fan, I just found out we only have a few days left to watch one of my favorite sci-fi series on Netflix before it’s gone! Luckily, Netflix is adding a bunch of great stuff in November, like all the Back to the Future movies, Doctor Sleep, and even The Hangover. But while we get ready for those new additions, a few things are leaving – and sadly, that includes some films from a really classic sci-fi series. So, if you’re a fan, now’s the time to squeeze in a watch!
Starting November 1st, the first three Jurassic Park movies—Jurassic Park, The Lost World: Jurassic Park, and Jurassic Park III—will no longer be available on Netflix. These films follow the story of people trying to build a theme park populated by cloned dinosaurs. Steven Spielberg directed the first two installments, featuring Jeff Goldblum, Richard Attenborough, Joseph Mazzello, and Ariana Richards. Joe Johnston directed the third film, bringing back Sam Neill and Laura Dern as Dr. Alan Grant and Dr. Ellie Sattler from the original movie.
Why You Should Watch the Original Jurassic Park Trilogy
The Jurassic Park movies have been somewhat uneven in quality, but the series as a whole is still among the most exciting and thought-provoking science fiction ever made. The films primarily deal with the moral questions surrounding scientific progress and the dangers of unchecked ambition, all wrapped up in a thrilling mix of adventure and spectacle. The first Jurassic Park movie is a standout, largely due to Steven Spielberg’s skillful direction and the revolutionary visual effects – a combination of CGI, practical effects, and animatronics – that made the dinosaurs feel incredibly real.
Spielberg’s first Jurassic Park movie is still considered a science fiction masterpiece and is the best-reviewed film in the series, boasting a 91% rating from critics and a similar score from audiences on Rotten Tomatoes. The original film earned over $1 billion globally and launched a hugely successful franchise. While the two sequels received lower critic scores (57% and 49% respectively), the series remains incredibly popular. This was recently demonstrated by Jurassic World Rebirth, which earned $888 million worldwide earlier this year, proving the franchise continues to captivate audiences.
Where to Watch the Original Jurassic Park Trilogy After It Leaves Netflix
Netflix’s
When Netflix loses the Jurassic Park trilogy, fans will be able to find it on Peacock instead. All three original Jurassic Park movies will be available on the NBCUniversal streaming service starting November 1st. This follows the arrival of Jurassic World Rebirth on Peacock on October 26th.
