Jenna Bush Hager wanted a little more life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness in college.

Barbara Bush once snuck away from her Secret Service detail while she was a student at the University of Texas at Austin. This happened when her father, George W. Bush, was first president.

Jenna admitted on Today that she briefly dated a football player while at the University of Texas, and she was actually embarrassed that the Secret Service might have found out about it.

The 43-year-old added, “I don’t know why, but I was.”

She realized she hadn’t wanted anyone to find out she was dating someone new, explaining that her senior year of school was already busy enough.

As Savannah joked, “Lots of walks of shame,” Jenna quipped with a laugh, “Lots of them.”

Jenna explained that her friends helped her bypass security. She was hidden in the back of their car, and they managed to get past the Secret Service without being detected.

She was surprised to finally share something she’d kept secret for years, explaining, “I’ve never told anyone this before.”

Savannah meanwhile was delighted to learn one of her best friend’s secrets.

“Hold on,” the 53-year-old said, surprised. “You mean you left your Secret Service detail? They believed you were home, maybe reading your Bible, while you were actually at the football player’s place?”

Oh my gosh, when Jenna said yes, I nearly fainted! Savannah was SO excited, she immediately went for a high five and shouted, “Right there! That’s MY girl!” It was the cutest thing ever, honestly. I felt like I was right there with them, sharing the moment. Savannah just gets Jenna, you know?

But Jenna didn’t make a habit of evading the Secret Service.

“It was only time I escaped them,” she shared, “and then we broke up soon after.”

Jenna is married to Henry Hager and they have three children: Mila, 12, Poppy, 10, and Hal, 6. She’s openly discussed how difficult it was growing up in the public spotlight – her father’s presidency even required her to use a Secret Service alias when she was a teenager.

She confessed on the Today show in September that she wasn’t a fan, playfully suggesting she was finally ready to share her honest opinion.

“My name was Holly Crawford,” she shared. “I know, Holly sounds like a good time, doesn’t she?”

Although she wasn’t the one who named it, she had a thought about its possible origin.

She explained that ‘Crawford’ was the name of the place they visited – or where her parents owned a house. It also reminded her of the holly bush, like the plant itself – just ‘Holly’.

She actually said, ‘I just made that up!’ with a laugh. But then she added something I absolutely love – she said if Holly Crawford ever walks into a room, you can bet she’s ready for a margarita.
