Having worked together on multiple projects, this person is a frequent collaborator with the renowned horror author. While their latest adaptation, The Life of Chuck, received good reviews, it wasn’t a major box office hit. Now, they’re teaming up again for a new project.
Mike Flanagan is currently involved in several projects based on the works of Stephen King, including a TV series adaptation of The Dark Tower. He’s also revisiting Carrie, a story that’s been adapted for the screen before, as a limited series. Flanagan recently announced on Instagram that filming for Carrie has finished.
The event showcased a chair covered in fake blood, displaying the filmmaker’s name and signatures from the movie’s famous actors.
In the caption, Flanagan wrote, “Our last day of filming on CARRIE.”
He shared that this project was a career highlight, praising the cast as one of the best he’s ever collaborated with. He’s incredibly excited for everyone to see the finished product.
Flanagan’s newest film, The Life of Chuck, based on a Stephen King story, debuted at the 2024 Toronto International Film Festival to enthusiastic praise. While the film was picked up for distribution by Neon and released in theaters this summer, it didn’t perform well at the box office despite positive reviews. This adaptation marks the third time King’s first published novel has been brought to the screen, and likely won’t be the last.
The 1976 film version of Carrie is considered a classic horror movie and boasts a 94% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, indicating overwhelmingly positive reviews. While it was followed by a poorly received sequel, Carrie: The Rage, and a 2002 TV movie, the story was also remade in 2013 with Chloë Grace Moretz and Julianne Moore in leading roles.
Who Stars in Mike Flanagan’s Carrie Reboot?
This summer, director Mike Flanagan revisited another Stephen King story, following his previous adaptations of Gerald’s Game (2017) and Doctor Sleep (2019). He recently worked on The Life of Chuck and, true to form, his new take on Carrie featured actors frequently seen in his other projects.
Summer H. Howell will star in the leading role. She’ll be acting alongside familiar faces from Mike Flanagan’s projects, including Matthew Lillard and Samantha Sloyan, who both appeared in The Fall of the House of Usher. Flanagan’s partner, Kate Siegel, is also in the cast, as are other frequent collaborators like Michael Trucco, Katee Sackhoff, Rahul Kohli, Crystal Balint, and Danielle Klaudt.
The Flanaverse is adding some exciting new faces! Heather Graham, known from The Hangover, Tim Bagley (The Perfect Couple), Tahmoh Penikett (The Madness), Mapuana Makia (Doogie Kamealoha M.D.), Rowan Danielle, Naika Toussaint (Washington Black), Delainey Hayles (Interview with the Vampire), and Cassandra Naud (Influencer) are all joining the project. Rounding out the cast are Siena Agudong (Resident Evil), Alison Thornton (School Spirits), Thalia Dudek (Doctor Who), Amber Midthunder (Prey), Josie Totah (The Buccanneers), Arthur Conti (Beetlejuice Beetlejuice), and Joel Oulette (Trickster).
Carrie is expected to premiere on Prime Video in 2026.
