A popular anime series previously available on Funimation is now unavailable for legal streaming after being removed from Crunchyroll this month. Crunchyroll boasts a huge collection of exclusive anime, and has grown significantly in recent years, especially after merging with Funimation and combining their anime libraries. While this initially gave fans access to more shows in one place, it appears some licensing issues have arisen.
I was really bummed to find out that Death Parade is no longer available to stream anywhere! It used to be on Funimation, then moved to Crunchyroll when those two companies merged, but the license expired and now it’s just…gone. That’s a tough loss, because Death Parade is a truly amazing anime and a lot of fans, myself included, consider it one of the best of its time.
Death Parade Has Been Removed By Crunchyroll
Fans recently discovered that the anime series Death Parade has been removed from Crunchyroll, following the earlier removal of Claymore. While the show still appears on Crunchyroll’s website, none of the episodes can currently be watched. Other streaming platforms, like Prime Video, confirm the series is no longer available due to licensing issues. It may still be accessible in some countries, but U.S. viewers are currently unable to watch it.
The anime Death Parade, created by the renowned studio Madhouse (known for series like Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End), is a concise 12-episode series. Though relatively short, it quickly gained a dedicated fanbase and offers a complete, satisfying story from start to finish. Unfortunately, it may now be difficult for new viewers to discover or revisit this impactful anime.
Should Fans Be Worried About Crunchyroll?
The recent removal of some older anime titles from Crunchyroll has raised concerns about the size of its library. While the number of removed shows is small compared to the new content added each season, it will be harder to find and watch these classics now that they’re no longer available on the streaming service. This is a common issue with streaming platforms like HBO Max and Hulu, as licenses for shows eventually expire.
Okay, so it’s not a total loss for shows like Death Parade! There’s still a chance the streaming services could pick them up again – they can relicense these series after they’ve been taken down. Right now, we just have to be patient and hope for the best. Honestly, it’s frustrating because the only way to watch legally at the moment is to buy a digital copy, and that’s not ideal for everyone.
