Adventure Time: Fionna and Cake Executive Producer Says ‘There’s Always a Chance’ For Season 3 (Exclusive)

At New York Comic Con, Adam Muto, the executive producer and showrunner of Adventure Time: Fionna and Cake, told TopMob that a third season is still possible. He said, “There’s always a chance.”

He emphasized that nothing is confirmed yet, stating that any potential developments are still a ways off and it’s too soon to say definitively. However, fans of the series can be encouraged by the possibility of future installments.

There’s plenty to look forward to in the new Season 2, and Muto hinted at some exciting things to come. He specifically mentioned how unusual some of the episodes become, and highlighted episodes six and seven as being particularly full of surprises.

I really love how wild and creative things get in episode six – and even seven, to some extent! There’s just so much happening, and the concept artists clearly went all out with the designs. It’s amazing, but a lot of the details flash by so quickly you could easily miss them if you blink!

The second season of Adventure Time: Fionna and Cake, the spin-off reimagining of Adventure Time, began releasing episodes last week. New episodes will be available on HBO Max every Thursday until the end of 2025.

Madeleine Martin, Roz Ryan, Ashly Burch, and other cast members recently spoke with TopMob at New York Comic Con about what fans can expect in the next season.

Adventure Time: Fionna and Cake Cast Talks Season 2

Madeleine Martin, who plays Fionna, says that while she initially thought Fionna’s biggest development in Season 2 of Adventure Time: Fionna and Cake was her character’s personal growth, she’s realized that’s not quite right.

Still, she did acknowledge her character’s growing awareness “that she needs some self worth:”

I think it’s more accurate to say Fionna is working through some challenges rather than experiencing personal growth. She’s definitely struggling, but she’s facing those struggles head-on, and I believe she’s starting to realize she needs to build up her self-esteem.

Martin hinted at a particularly emotional scene in the season finale, saying she was deeply touched when she first read it.

Roz Ryan, the voice of Cake, explained that this season feels more realistic than the first, emphasizing the characters and their connections to each other rather than exploring multiple universes.

We’re focusing on telling stories about the characters we have, and not jumping around to different universes. Things are getting personal – even Cake finds a boyfriend!

Ashly Burch is joining the cast as Huntress Wizard, a character originally voiced by Jenny Slate in Adventure Time. Burch hinted that her character will have a significant role in the new season, carrying a lot of emotional depth and featuring a key relationship with Finn.

Burch explained it was “special” to look at her story with Finn from Huntress Wizard’s point of view:

This season, the character carries a lot of emotional depth and drives much of the story. I felt a strong responsibility to portray her accurately and respectfully within this storyline. Her relationship with Finn is central to this, and it’s unique because we usually see things from Finn’s point of view in ‘Adventure Time.’ I really focused on capturing that change in perspective and revealing more about her, giving the performance everything I had to do the character justice.

Adventure Time: Fionna and Cake Season 2 is releasing new episodes weekly on HBO Max.
