The James Bond films are undergoing a significant change. For the first time in six decades, a new team of filmmakers is taking over the series. Following Amazon’s purchase of the film rights, a reboot is in development. Currently, the only confirmed details are that Amy Pascal (known for Spider-Man) and David Herman (Harry Potter) will oversee the entire franchise, and Denis Villeneuve (Dune) is set to direct. While neither a release date nor the next James Bond actor has been announced, speculation is already widespread.
There’s been a lot of talk about the next James Bond movie, including who might play the lead role. Recently, rumors spread online that Sydney Sweeney, known for her roles in shows like Euphoria and The White Lotus and the movie Madame Web, is a leading contender to play Bond’s love interest. Sweeney hasn’t directly addressed these reports until now, and a recent interview revealed her surprising reaction to the speculation.
Sydney Sweeney Dismisses James Bond Rumors, But With a Twist

Considering Sydney Sweeney attended Jeff Bezos’s wedding, rumors about her being considered for the next James Bond role aren’t surprising, especially with Amazon and MGM involved. However, she hadn’t addressed the speculation publicly until recently. In a new interview with Variety, Sweeney finally responded to the Bond rumors, and the publication noted she seemed particularly flustered when asked about it – it was the only moment in the entire conversation where she appeared visibly uncomfortable.
After a moment of hesitation, Sydney Sweeney admitted she wasn’t sure about rumors linking her to a James Bond role. She explained she wasn’t fully aware of all the speculation, but she’s a longtime fan of the Bond films and eager to see where the franchise goes next. When asked directly if she’d be interested in the role, she playfully suggested she’d rather play James Bond himself, if the script was right.
Sweeney is now a successful actress who doesn’t need a role as a Bond girl to advance her career. She’s already received critical acclaim and even earned two Emmy nominations in a single year. She’s at a point where movies and shows are being built around her, often with her also serving as a producer. Essentially, she’s already established her place in popular culture – the Bond franchise might actually benefit more from her involvement than vice versa. This could be why rumors about her being considered for the role are circulating in the first place, according to those at Amazon and MGM.
There’s not much happening with the next James Bond film right now. Director Denis Villeneuve is still working on Dune: Part Three, which isn’t due out until December 2026. This means he wouldn’t be available to start on Bond for at least another year and a half, possibly two. Consequently, the film likely won’t be released until 2028. Plus, with Anya Taylor-Joy’s busy schedule over the last six years, it’s uncertain if she’d even be free to film it when the time comes.
