Even though the original series ended, the world of Supernatural continues with a new sequel. The show, which ran for fifteen seasons from 2005 to 2020, is widely considered one of the most popular shows of its kind. Its unique combination of American folklore and compelling characters helped it achieve lasting success and a dedicated fanbase – something few TV shows manage to do over such a long period.
Even though the TV show Supernatural ended five years ago, the story isn’t over. Thanks to dedicated fans and the rich world created, the franchise continues to thrive. In 2025, a new comic book series from Dynamite Entertainment will explore the beginning of Sam and Dean Winchester’s journey and reveal the origins of their story.
Supernatural Returns In 2025 With A Comic Interquel

Fans of Supernatural will be excited to hear the story continues in a new comic book series launching in 2025! Dynamite Entertainment’s Supernatural #1 picks up where the show left off, written by Greg Pak (known for his work on Star Wars: Darth Vader and Planet Hulk) and illustrated by Eder Messias (Spider-Man: The Lost Hunt). The comics will feature artwork by Clayton Crain, David Cuosens, and Messias, and each issue will also include a cover featuring photos of the original actors. New issues will be released every month, providing ongoing adventures for fans.
This comic book series, set between seasons one and two of the popular TV show Supernatural, revisits Sam and Dean Winchester’s beginnings. The brothers investigate a series of strange fires in a run-down town, and a factory explosion at Windler Industries leads them to a puzzling mystery involving the company’s workers. As always, Sam and Dean must figure out what evil force is causing the fires.
The next issue takes a lighter turn when Sam and Dean try to win some money gambling at a casino. Sam meets an intriguing woman there who is secretly a siren. Their lucky night quickly turns dangerous, and the brothers have to figure out if they can trust this seemingly kind monster.
The third installment of the series introduces an undead element. Sam and Dean Winchester head to Massachusetts and join forces with a group of live-action role-players who have barely survived a supernatural encounter. Like the original TV series, each issue tells a complete, standalone story.
Dynamite’s Supernatural Comics Take Place At A Special Point In The Winchesters’ Timeline
The Winchesters’ Story Continues In Comic Book Form
As a huge Supernatural fan, I always loved how the comics fit right between the first and second seasons. It’s such a key moment for Sam and Dean! They’ve just barely survived the car crash that finished season one, and they’re completely devastated by the loss of their dad, who gave his life to save Dean. You can really feel their grief, but even with everything, they’re determined to keep hunting and face whatever’s coming next – it’s a really powerful setup for the rest of the show.
The Supernatural comic from Dynamite Entertainment is set earlier in the series, before Sam and Dean fully understand Azazel or Sam’s psychic abilities. This means the story takes place when the brothers are still focused on more realistic investigations, traveling in their Impala and relying on their gut instincts. The larger supernatural world of Heaven, Hell, and the Apocalypse hasn’t come into play yet; it’s a return to the show’s grittier, earlier style.
How 2025’s Supernatural Comic Series Connect To Previous Comics
Previous Supernatural Comics Are Canon To The TV Show
Dynamite’s latest Supernatural comic series builds on the stories told in previous Supernatural comics, and everything is considered part of the show’s official story. The first of these comics, Supernatural: Origins from 2007, details John Winchester becoming a hunter after his wife, Mary, dies, and shows what Sam and Dean were like growing up.
After the comic Origins, Supernatural: Rising Son (2008) delves deeper into Dean’s journey to becoming a hunter. This story connects John’s initial hunts with Dean’s transformation into the experienced and burdened brother fans know from the TV show. It focuses on the special bond between the brothers and their father’s unwavering quest, ideas that the current Dynamite comic series will explore again, but this time showing Dean and Sam facing these challenges on their own.
In 2010 and 2011, DC Comics released two Supernatural comics – Beginning’s End and Caledonia – that explored Sam’s time at Stanford and his adventures alone in the UK. The new series from Dynamite Entertainment will bring the focus back to Sam and Dean working as a team.
Supernatural May Continue To Be Expanded In The Future
There’s Still Plenty To Explore In The Supernatural Universe
Despite lasting fifteen seasons, spawning several spin-offs, and inspiring numerous comic books, the world of Supernatural still has plenty of stories left to tell and hidden aspects of its mythology to explore. The adventures of Sam and Dean Winchester only scratched the surface of the strange creatures and haunted locations hidden throughout America. Comics are a great way to build on this rich history, reintroducing forgotten monsters and bringing back familiar faces from the past.
The world of Supernatural has a lot of potential beyond Sam and Dean’s story. Comics could introduce new hunters, explore different creatures, or offer new takes on the monsters we already know. The show’s rich history provides endless possibilities for future stories – prequels, sequels, or spin-offs. Even though Sam and Dean’s journey has ended, the Supernatural franchise itself is far from over.
