*Warning: This article contains spoilers for Lazarus.*
Prime Video’s thriller, Lazarus, is short and sweet at only six episodes. Despite its length, it effectively portrays the emotional struggles of Joel “Laz” Lazarus (played by Sam Claflin) after his father passes away.
Laz struggles to accept his father’s suicide and believes there’s more to the story. The season’s final episode reveals a shocking truth: Laz didn’t truly know his father, who, along with Dr. L (Bill Nighy) and Detective Alison Brown (Kate Ashfield), had been manipulating the system for years to their own advantage.
Even after the Dr. L and Alison case concluded, it remained unclear if Laz had been hallucinating the entire time, possibly re-experiencing his father’s old therapy sessions through a recording. Adding to the confusion, when Laz went to see his new partner, Laura (Roisin Gallagher), he discovered his son Aidan had probably assaulted her.
Wondering if Lazarus will return for another season? Here’s everything we currently know about the possibility of a second season of the Harlan Coben thriller on Prime Video.
Will there be a Lazarus season 2?

As of now, Lazarus has not been renewed for season 2.
It appears the show Lazarus was always intended to be a limited series, lasting only one season. According to creator and writer Harlan Coben, they decided from the beginning to approach each storyline as if it would only get one season.
We all feel it’s unfair to make viewers watch eight episodes without any answers, forcing them to come back for another season. It just doesn’t feel right, and that’s how the show is structured.
You know, when we finished the series, people started wondering if we’d left things open for another season. And honestly, maybe we did, unintentionally. But our main goal wasn’t to tease a continuation. We really wanted to tie up all the loose ends introduced in the first episode and give viewers satisfying answers by the time the sixth episode rolled around. It was about completing the story we set out to tell.
When could a potential Lazarus season 2 be released?
Because a second season would only happen if they can come up with a story even better than the first, it might be a while before any decisions are made.
Harlan Coben explained to TechRadar that they don’t plan for second seasons when creating their shows. He said they prefer to tell fresh, standalone stories. However, if there’s strong demand and they can develop a compelling storyline that matches or exceeds the quality of the first season, they’ll consider continuing the series. Otherwise, they’re content with moving on to new, original ideas.
Honestly, it doesn’t look like we’ll be getting another season anytime soon. There aren’t any firm plans in place right now, and Harlan Coben is really tied up with his other projects for Netflix, so writing a new season is likely a ways off.
If the show gets renewed quickly, we might see a second season of Lazarus around late 2026 or 2027.
Who could return to star in a potential Lazarus season 2?

Seeing as the series was led by Sam Claflin, would the actor return for a potential second season?
In a recent interview with Decider, actress Claflin shared how much she enjoyed her role and the imaginative world of the show, as well as the other characters. She’s open to revisiting the project in the future, saying she’d be interested in seeing what new stories could be told and wouldn’t rule out returning.
It also feels like a satisfying conclusion, even though it’s somewhat open to interpretation. Ultimately, whether it works depends on the quality of the writing and the thought put into it.
It’s still unclear whether the show ‘Lazarus’ will return, or if its original creator, Claflin, would be involved. What we do know is that if it did come back, certain characters – like Detective Alison Brown, played by Kate Ashfield, and Dr. Jonathan Lazarus, played by Bill Nighy – won’t be part of the story, as both characters died in the first season.
It’s currently unclear what happened to Laura, so we don’t know when or if Roisin Gallagher will return to play her. However, Alexandra Roach has expressed interest in returning as Jenna, Laz’s sister. She told TechRadar she’d “love to play Jenna again, and go back to that fancy house and wear those fancy clothes and pick up the story where we left off.”
She expressed excitement about the show’s open-endedness and eagerness to see how Jenna responds to the recent cliffhanger. She praised the writing of Harlan and Danny, enjoying the challenge of portraying their work, and confirmed she would be interested in continuing with the project.
The cast we’d expect to see in a potential second season of Lazarus are as follows.
- Sam Claflin as Laz
- Alexandra Roach as Jenna Lazarus
- David Fynn as Seth McGovern
- Karla Crome as Bella
- Curtis Tennant as Aidan
What could a potential Lazarus season 2 be about?
The mystery of Dr. L’s death was largely resolved in the last episode of season one. It was revealed that both Dr. L and Alison were manipulating the legal system to their advantage. Dr. L, believing some of his patients were dangerous, used Alison to falsely connect them to crimes so they could be imprisoned.
Alison threatened Dr. L with a gun, hoping to ensure their secrets remained hidden if something happened to him. When Dr. L attempted to talk to Alison about it, a chaotic pursuit began, ultimately ending in Alison’s tragic death when she was struck by a bus.
But near the very end, it’s revealed that Laz had been listening to recordings made by his father, which makes you wonder if everything he went through was just a product of his own imagination.
The story reaches its most suspenseful moment when Laz arrives at Laura’s house to find it completely wrecked and signs of a fight. He turns around and sees his son, Aidan, standing in the doorway holding a curved knife. Aidan stares at Laz without expression before simply saying, “I’m sorry.”
A second season might center around Aidan, but there haven’t been any confirmations or even rumors about that possibility yet.
